I have my HP N5150 with a Belkin 802.11g wireless card WORKING on my home network using hotplug.d and wireless.opts. Where it gets it's essid, encyption, etc parameters. Now, I go to my local library and wish to use their open wireless network. There params are mode: managed encyption: off essid: JCPLWireless I fire up and of course I don't connect because I am using my home parmeters. Running 'iwlist wlan0 scanning' reveals the JCPLWireless network as advertised. Ok, I enter: iwconfig wlan0 mode managed iwconfig wlan0 enc off iwconfig wlan0 essid JCPLWireless But then running 'iwconfig wlan0' it lists 'ESSID=""'. All other params are set to the new values, mode managed and enc off. So, what do I need to do to get connected to a public wireless network WITHOUT having to change wireless.opts every time. tj ------------------------------------------------------- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users.
