The new udev doesn't set the groups from the rules file.
Under udev054 I would get
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 33 2005-03-17 12:46 timer
Under udev055 I get
crw-rw---- 1 root root 116, 33 2005-03-17 12:46 timer
