Subject: [ANNOUNCE] Hotplug-Perl 1.1 Update
Date: Mon, 06 Jun 2005 15:00:58 +0000 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <42A4652A.70207@idealcorp.com> (raw)
ANNOUNCEMENT
Version 1.1 of hotplug-perl is now available at:
http://opensource.idealcorp.com/hotplug-perl/
CHANGES
This release fixes a bug relating to pack/unpack functions on big-endian
machines in the IEEE1394 / USB and INPUT modules bit tests. Thanks to
Jörg Sommer for the report and the suggested fix.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Hotplug-perl is a boot speed performance oriented implementation of
hotplug written in Perl. It requires a 2.6 kernel with hotplug and Perl
5.8. It was developed with Debian Sarge as the target, but should work
elsewhere. The web page includes bootcharts demonstrating the
performance improvement over the Bash implementation of hotplug.
OTHER INFORMATION
Since its release just over a month ago, Hotplug-Perl has been
downloaded over 500 times, has been included in the CRUX linux
distribution[1] and is being considered by Mandriva to address boot
speed issues[2].

As suggested in a couple of emails, Debian users can now add the
following to their /etc/apt/sources.list to get automated updates in the
future:
deb http://opensource.idealcorp.com/debian ./
deb-src http://opensource.idealcorp.com/debian ./
Thanks to everyone for all the emails of encouragement and support. Glad
to be of assistance!
Tony
