Subject: udev requires a mounted procfs
Date: Sat, 21 Jan 2006 22:36:18 +0000 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <43D2B762.9080404@cogweb.net> (raw)
On a 2.6.12 kernel running Debian sid, after relying on hotplug up until
now, I installed udev 0.081-1. When I reboot, right after the kernel
starts loading and the entry before the bootlog daemon starts, I get "*
udev requires a mounted procfs, not started. Failed!". Once booted,
udevd is not running, but df -a shows
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda5 9078636 4297744 4319832 50% /
proc 0 0 0 - /proc
sysfs 0 0 0 - /sys
devpts 0 0 0 - /dev/pts
tmpfs 257596 0 257596 0% /dev/shm
usbfs 0 0 0 - /proc/bus/usb
binfmt_misc 0 0 0 -
/proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc
Reinstalling udev starts udevd and it seems to work fine, but the
problem recurs on reboot.
How do I fix this?
Dave
