Hi folks,

I have a problem with my card reader: If I instert an SD card
at runtime, then udev doesn't say a beep.

Looking at dmesg I found this:

:
Vendor: USB2.0 Model: CardReader CF RW Rev: 0.0>
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00
sd 2:0:0:0: Attached scsi removable disk sdb
Vendor: USB2.0 Model: CardReader Combo Rev: 0.0>
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00
sd 2:0:0:1: Attached scsi removable disk sdc
usb-storage: device scan complete
:

i.e. the card reader is recognized.

If I boot with an SD card inserted, then I can mount it as
expected, but actually this procedure is pretty painfull.

The question is: Is udev supposed to recognize an inserted
SD card?

kernel is 2.6.16.5, amd64. Udev is 0.089 (debian).

Many thanx in advance

Harri

That's normal.

No. HAL does that. udev can't do it as the insertion of the card does
not cause any kernel event for udev to catch. HAL polls the device to
check for media insertion.

Hope this helps,
