Thanks for your reply,
I've got one last proplem. The programm, that I put into
/etc/hotplug.d/usb/ is always invoked two times when an hotplug event
occures. This causes my program crashes...

It all looks just fine, what is the problem?

That's they way the spec says it needs to be. If it's not there, fine,
nothing bad happens.

put your program in the proper place in the /etc/hotplug.d/ tree, and it
will be run. Read the documentation (or the /sbin/hotplug script) for
more details on how to do this.
Also, any further questions should be addressed to the
linux-hotplug-devel mailing list, not directly to me.
Good luck,

Check *all* the variables, there is probably a reason for this.

Hi,
is hotplug-ng still a going concern? I notice that
it's not included in the sourceforge hotplug downloads
any more (though it's still in the kernel.org
downloads).
I always thought it was the way to go as it's written
in C rather than shell scripts, so should be way
faster and smaller for embedded systems? Are there any
disadvantages to using hotplug-ng rather than any of
the other hotplugs?
cheers
Chris

It's been a while since I looked at what udev /
hotplug do so please forgive my ignorance :-) I
thought that udev needs hotplug to handle kernel
hotplug events for things like usb flash stick
insertion / removal. Does udev-104 handle kernel
hotplug events without any intervention from (any kind
of) hotplug? I've tried building udev-104 and it
doesn't seem to replace /sbin/hotplug, and the
standard S10udev script that is installed still leaves
/proc/sys/kernel/hotplug pointing to /sbin/hotplug?
Is hotplug still required by udev or have I missed the
point?
cheers
Chris

I do.
Which is not to say udev isn't a hell hole ;-)
But it's a rewarding hello hole when you
(finally) get it right.
