Message-Id: List-Id: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit To: linux-hotplug@vger.kernel.org (forgive me if this is a double posting. I think I used the wrong address the first time) Folks, I am having quite a bit of trouble getting my USB printer to install under VMware. I have RH 7.2 as the Host OS and WinMe as the guest OS. Here's what's happening... When I fire up the PC as normal WITH the printer already connected, Linux sees the USB device, the Lexmark X63 printer. When I try to run the installation software under VMware, I get an error message telling me the host OS has use of the USB port and VMwae will not take control until RH gives up control of the device. If I start the system with the printer NOT plugged into the USB port, VM ware can capture the port. When installing the software, it freezes. Who knows why but I think it is still having issues with RH discovering the USB port as soon as the printer is connected also. Anyway, at this point, even if VM ware keeps focus, if I unplug the printer and then plug it in again, RH once again has control and I'm back to the problem above. Here's the problem then as I see it. How do I tell my RH 7.2 install to ignore a USB port so I can use it in VMware only. I do not need to use any USB ports under RH at this time. It is much more inmportant to use the ports under VMware for printing and so on. Part 2, if I tell my system to ignore a USB port, will VMware still be able to find it? It really relies on the Host OS to pass information from the outside world. Anyone have any ideas on all this?
