Subject: Having trouble hooking up a Canon PowerShot S200
Date: Fri, 13 Sep 2002 04:26:35 +0000 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <marc-linux-hotplug-103189087919759@msgid-missing> (raw)
I'm trying to use gphoto2 to grab pictures
off of my Canon PowerShot S200, but I cannot
get hotplugging to work.
I'm using Debian 3.0 (testing) and the package
I'm using is hotplug 0.0.20020401-4. I have
USB support all enabled (I'm using it for my
modem right now and I've also used it for my
mouse in the past), and I've turned on CONFIG_HOTPLUG.
/proc/sys/kernel/hotplug points to /sbin/hotplug and
the file exists. I also have an /etc/init.d/hotplug
file. I have noticed, however, that when my hotplug
is run, I get the message:
Starting hotplug subsystem: usb
** can't synthesize root hub events
I'm assuming this is bad. Why would this happen?
My usb.usermap file looks like this:
# usb.usermap file
# This is autogenerated by update-usb.usermap program
# usb module match_flags idVendor idProduct bcdDevice_lo
bcdDevice_hi bDeviceClass bDeviceSubClass bDeviceProtocol bInterface
Class bInterfaceSubClass bInterfaceProtocol driver_info
# libgphoto2

There's a bunch of them. I have a file called /etc/hotplug/usb/usbcam
for starting all of this up that looks like this:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1039 Sep 12 21:30 usbcam
Whenever I turn my camera on and plug it in, nothing seems
to happen. I see no messages in /var/log/syslog, /var/log/messages,
or dmesg.
If any of you could provide insight into this, I would greatly
appreciate it. I would love to use my digital camera in Linux.
Please let me know if there is any additional information you
need to know.
Oh yeah, I'm running kernel 2.4.19.
