I'm using Debian 3.0 (testing) and the package I'm using is hotplug 0.0.20020401-4. I have USB support all enabled (I'm using it for my modem right now and I've also used it for my mouse in the past), and I've turned on CONFIG_HOTPLUG. /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug points to /sbin/hotplug and the file exists. I also have an /etc/init.d/hotplug file. I have noticed, however, that when my hotplug is run, I get the message: Starting hotplug subsystem: usb ** can't synthesize root hub events I'm assuming this is bad. Why would this happen? My usb.usermap file looks like this: # usb.usermap file # This is autogenerated by update-usb.usermap program # usb module match_flags idVendor idProduct bcdDevice_lo bcdDevice_hi bDeviceClass bDeviceSubClass bDeviceProtocol bInterface Class bInterfaceSubClass bInterfaceProtocol driver_info # libgphoto2 usbcam 0x0003 0x0553 0x0202 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x06bd 0x0403 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x0553 0x0202 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x0553 0x0202 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x04a9 0x3047 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x04a9 0x304d 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x04a9 0x3066 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x04a9 0x3052 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x04a9 0x3044 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x04a9 0x3060 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x04a9 0x3046 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x04a9 0x304b 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x04a9 0x304f 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x04a9 0x304e 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 usbcam 0x0003 0x04a9 0x3059 0x0000 0x0000 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00000000 .... .... .... There's a bunch of them. I have a file called /etc/hotplug/usb/usbcam for starting all of this up that looks like this: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1039 Sep 12 21:30 usbcam Whenever I turn my camera on and plug it in, nothing seems to happen. I see no messages in /var/log/syslog, /var/log/messages, or dmesg. If any of you could provide insight into this, I would greatly appreciate it. I would love to use my digital camera in Linux. Please let me know if there is any additional information you need to know. Oh yeah, I'm running kernel 2.4.19. -- Jeff "Shippy" Shipman E-Mail: shippy@nmt.edu Computer Science Major ICQ: 1786493 New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology Homepage: http://www.nmt.edu/~shippy ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ Linux-hotplug-devel mailing list http://linux-hotplug.sourceforge.net Linux-hotplug-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-hotplug-devel
