Subject: two problems: usb-devel mailing list trouble, and automounting a usb
Date: Fri, 07 Nov 2003 14:15:26 +0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <marc-linux-hotplug-106821459613381@msgid-missing> (raw)

Hello Greg! I've subscribed to the usb developers list, but all mail I
send to it gets bounced by the mailman as having been sent to the
list-request address. Mail to me from the list appears as if it were
private (two party) mail for which I was on a bcc list. Only you &
Surekha are in the to & from fields. If you have a clue or pointer,
please toss it my way.

More pressing problem: I run shrike (RH9, linux kernel 2.4.20-8),
and attempt to automount a thumb drive (Kanguru Microdrive 128MB)
that lsusb says is 0d7d/0120 Apacer. Currently I poll using
system("grep -q usb-storage /proc/bus/usb/devices)".
This works as expected the first time. I then mount() and
system("cat bigfile | bzip2 > /mnt/thumbdrive/smallfile") to compress
bigfile onto the thumbdrive. Then I umount(). This all works fine the
first time, sometimes second. By time the 5th attempt is made,
/var/log/messages begins to get "kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout"
messages, and "time lsusb" takes 15 seconds to run.

The file copy take proportionately longer, but completes.

What part of 'TFM' should I 'R'?

<message I replied to because of problem 1>
