Okay, I am a newbie to udev and would like some help getting it up and
running.
If anyone could help me out by answering my questions it would be of
great help.

1. Is there any documentation for the syntax of udev.rules as far as
configuring it for what I would like.
2. Is there any documentation for sysfs and how it relates to udev.
3. When I try to compile udev with USE_DBUS=true I get errors from gcc
stating that it has undefined references to the dbus functions (ie it
prints 'undefined reference to `dbus_connection_disconnect`).

On the matter of question 3, I am currently playing around with udev-099
and d-bus cvs (checked out on the 22nd of December 2003 Aust EST, have
also tried d-bus-0.020 with the same errors being generated).

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Have you read the udev man page? I covers how the rules file is
constructed, and gives an example. Also the example udev.rules file
shows all of the different rules in use.

You need sysfs to run udev. That's about it :)

Anything specific you want to know about sysfs?

Yup, the USE_DBUS build target right now doesn't work without some
tweaks to make the glibc build link dynamically. If anyone wants to
send me such a patch I'd be glad to intregrate it into the udev tree.

Hope this helps,
