Have you read Adam Richter's recent message to
linux-hotplug-devel (02/24/01 @ 8:25:02PM)?
This message is the result of a discussion that occured
in response to a message I posted containing a list
of requirements from David Hinds for migrating PCMCIA
support into the kernel tree.
As a short-term solution, recent cardmgr builds will
ignore all devices that occur in the modules.pcimap
on machines running a 2.4.x kernel. This means that
PCMCIA configuration should not step on the toes of
devices that the new hotplug system supports.
I haven't seen any feedback to Adam's post, yet.
Hopefully a substantive discussion will lead to an
agreed design.
I'd like to see another discussion occur that explores
the implementation of PCMCIA support in the kernel
in light of Adam's recent mail. It's my understanding
that the PCMCIA migration is all 2.5 work. In the
meantime, I think the hack in cardmgr is sufficient.
Agreed?
Miles
