Oh my ... the naming problem surfaces again!
The one whereby names assigned by the kernel
can't generally be "user meaningful names".

What naming policy is it that you want to provide?
Is it based on printer connection (port N on that hub),
or device type, both, something else, ...?  

You could probably arrange to have hotplugging
set up device links to obey such a policy, if you
could rely on a patch like this one (as updated to
apply to scanner drivers, not printers).

Regardless of how/whether scanners converge towards
a single driver, you'll have such a problem.
