When my laptop boots up, the devices in the /dev/sound have permissions of 0600, and hence users in the audio group can't access the devices, if I then run udevstart from the command line after bootup, the correct permissions of 0660 are set. I am using udev027, on a gentoo box, without saving the devices and the /dev/ directory mounted on a ramfs. See below. laptop root # ls -l /dev/sound total 0 crw------- 1 root audio 14, 12 Jun 19 15:21 adsp crw------- 1 root audio 14, 4 Jun 19 15:21 audio crw------- 1 root audio 14, 3 Jun 19 15:21 dsp crw------- 1 root audio 14, 0 Jun 19 15:21 mixer crw------- 1 root audio 14, 1 Jun 19 15:21 sequencer crw------- 1 root audio 14, 8 Jun 19 15:21 sequencer2 laptop root # udevstart laptop root # ls -l /dev/sound total 0 crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 12 Jun 19 15:21 adsp crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 4 Jun 19 15:21 audio crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 3 Jun 19 15:21 dsp crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 0 Jun 19 15:21 mixer crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 1 Jun 19 15:21 sequencer crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 8 Jun 19 15:21 sequencer2 laptop root # mount /dev/hda3 on / type ext3 (rw,noatime) none on /proc type proc (rw) none on /sys type sysfs (rw) none on /dev type ramfs (rw) none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw) /dev/hda4 on /home type ext3 (rw,noatime) none on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw) none on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw) nfsd on /proc/fs/nfs type nfsd (rw) printserver:/usr/portage on /usr/portage type nfs (rw,tcp,addr2.168.0.3) laptop root # uname -a Linux laptop 2.6.7-rc1-mm1 #1 Fri Jun 4 08:22:19 SAST 2004 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) III Mobile CPU 1133MHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux Regards Craig -- Craig Main (RHCE) Tel: +27 11 760 1900 Cell: +27 82 323 4670 http://www.themains.net http://www.stsolutions.co.za ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by The 2004 JavaOne(SM) Conference Learn from the experts at JavaOne(SM), Sun's Worldwide Java Developer Conference, June 28 - July 1 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA REGISTER AND SAVE! http://java.sun.com/javaone/sf Priority Code NWMGYKND _______________________________________________ Linux-hotplug-devel mailing list http://linux-hotplug.sourceforge.net Linux-hotplug-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-hotplug-devel
