I have ide errors on my compaq deskpros with redhat 9.0, primary ide is
cable select with only one connection, and secondary is master/salve cable.
redhat 7.3 has no ide errors.
I am preparing to install test kernels on this box, and it would be helpful
if there are any peculiarities
with compaq's. I thought that newer kernels were backward compatible with
the pentium I series cpu.
Also, can anyone point me to open source documentation on pci bridge
commands, and bus mastering, and extending the interrupt range past 256
slots, and general pci commands.
Can devices be remapped at the bus level below the operating system? and can
the pinouts be revectored on the cables, and onboard parallel and serial
lines. and slots on mboard
and info on pci-isa bridge.
thanks very much.
regards,
Paul

Thanks Pat LaVarre.
I have the book undocumented pc.
I just installed xp over 98 and immediately it started to send out syn
packets over the internet.
I found it was msblaster.exe worm. I did an ida on it and i t appears to
jump down deep into the hardware layer. and revectors the dma, irq, ports
etc.
I am very suprised that in a secure operating system like xp that this is
possible.
I don't know how i got it, perhaps from email or so called rpc buffer overun
.
But I would like to prevent it happening again. .
these links are very helpful. for this and device drivers , ide, for
linux.
thanks.
regards,
paul

Thank you for your many kind words, certainly I join you in applauding
linux-ide folk.

I answer re worms in Windows not online here in linux-ide, rather
online in blog:
Subject: Microsoft Windows patch again advised when
http://plavarre.blog-city.com/read/645732.htm
I vote we move that talk there or elsewhere because I know some
linux-ide subscribers ask that we leave the world-writable linux-ide
focused exclusively on IDE in Linux.
