Then did you mean to write..

+            if (class == ATA_DEV_ATA)
+                class = ATA_DEV_ATAPI;
+            else if (class == ATA_DEV_ATAPI)
+                class = ATA_DEV_ATA;

?

Otherwise, as Jeff mentions, you're doing a redundant assignment
in the else branch.
