Good day. I have Mandrake Linux LE2005 with custom kernel
2.6.12.2+Reiser4 patch+TX4000 patch
(First part of this patch
http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-ide@vger.kernel.org/msg00150.html
second part failed and I can't figure out how to apply it). When i do
'modprobe sata_promise' it only says:

 I have 2 hard drives connected to TX4000 on IDE1 channel, in stripe
mode. I've set up raid in TX4000 BIOS, but in Linux it can't see my
hard disks, and so I have no /dev/sd* and can't mount this hard
disks...Could you please help me, what am I doing wrong?
I've already tried to install sata_promise both as a module and as a
built-in...I've tried to do 'modprobe sd_mod' first, it only says
'SCSI system initialized'. I'm completely stuck with it :(

 PS. I have ASUS i815 CUSL2-M motherboard.

Yes, with another hard drive, which is error-free everything works
just fine, with one exception:

libata version 1.11 loaded.

As you can see, only one hard drive is connected to my TX4000, and
because I disabled sata check I get abnormal status on another ports.
But my hard drive works just fine! I'm looking forward to attach
another hard drive and create RAID in TX4000 BIOS. I wonder, will
sata_promise detect two disks on two ports, or just one thru BIOS?

Look's like I've found solution. I've checked libata_core.c and found
following strings in it (line 1427):

      if (sata_dev_present(ap))
        ata_port_probe(ap);
      else {
                sstatus = scr_read(ap, SCR_STATUS);
                printk(KERN_INFO "ata%u: no device found (phy stat %08x)\n",
                       ap->id, sstatus);
                ata_port_disable(ap);
        }

For experiment, I made following changes:

//      if (sata_dev_present(ap))
        ata_port_probe(ap);
/*      else {
                sstatus = scr_read(ap, SCR_STATUS);
                printk(KERN_INFO "ata%u: no device found (phy stat %08x)\n",
                       ap->id, sstatus);
                ata_port_disable(ap);
        }
*/

So, now it's always do port-probe, and here is the result:

libata version 1.12 loaded.
sata_promise version 1.02
PCI: Found IRQ 9 for device 0000:01:0a.0

As you can see, my device is found ok, I was able to format it and
mount it. Seek errors may be because of bad disk state, I'm trying to
make some checks on it. I understand, that I made really incorrect
commenting out, but maybe now somebody will be able to make this
driver work correctly with an PATA devices?

Good day. I've tried latest kernel 2.6.13-rc7, TX4000 support seems to
be in sata_promise already. After startup I see following in dmesg:

libata version 1.12 loaded.
sata_promise version 1.02
PCI: Found IRQ 5 for device 0000:01:09.0
ata1: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xCC81C200 ctl 0xCC81C238 bmdma 0x0 irq 5

ata3: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xCC81C300 ctl 0xCC81C338 bmdma 0x0 irq 5
ata4: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xCC81C380 ctl 0xCC81C3B8 bmdma 0x0 irq 5
ata1: no device found (phy stat 00000000)

ata2: no device found (phy stat 00000000)
scsi1 : sata_promise
ata3: no device found (phy stat 00000000)
scsi2 : sata_promise
ata4: no device found (phy stat 00000000)
scsi3 : sata_promise

Anybody has any ideas? As I can see, my TX4000 is found by
sata_promise, it even detects it's UDMA modes, but it still can't find
any of my hard drives, while TX4000 BIOS shows all of them ok.

Jeff, please, can you comment this situation???

So, no PATA controllers like TX4000 can be supported under Linux?
Anybody, please answer...

Seems to me than no one with the skills is interested. (not a dig at
anyone, so please don't take it that way)

That is of course except us with the problem.

It's a case of fix it yourself, or suck it a wait.

I believe it is a problem with the sata_promise stuff, as we are seeing
similar issues with the S150 TX4 and the SATAII TX4.

TX4000 RAID and sata_promise.

Good day. I have Mandrake Linux LE2005 with custom kernel
2.6.12.2+Reiser4 patch+TX4000 patch
(First part of this patch http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-ide@vger.kernel.org/msg00150.html
second part failed and I can't figure out how to apply it). When i do
'modprobe sata_promise' it only says:

Aug 14 19:24:21 mandr kernel: libata version 1.11 loaded.
