I have no idea who Al is, or how one would "take it up with" him.

I only signed up on this list 10 months ago, and never did find the veto history or any discussion leading thereto. I have seen discussion/attempts to solve the >15 limitation of libata via dm/kpartx, but not any yet
user-ready solution.
