If you boot with the "irqpoll" option does it get further ?

On the 2.6.26 kernel, system still freezes.
On 2.6.24-19-generic;
[ 30.507816] sata_inic162x 0000:04:00.0: version 0.3
[ 30.507871] PCI: Enabling device 0000:04:00.0 (0000 -> 0003)
[ 30.507984] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:04:00.0[A] -> GSI 21 (level,
low) -> IRQ 18
[ 30.508198] ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:04:00.0 disabled
[ 30.508300] sata_inic162x: probe of 0000:04:00.0 failed with error -22
I should also point out that with the 2.6.26 kernel the system only
freezes when I connect an external e-SATA drive. I've attached the
message log of the output result of me physically removing the pcmcia
card re-inserting it and attaching the external drive.
Jon.

BAR 5 non-existent. sata_inic162x should then use BAR 1 which
should seems fine. Hmmm... ENOENT. Can you please try the attached
patch?

Tejun,
I've been using the new driver to boot my second machine for about 2 weeks,
now, as well as having another 200GB disk hanging off it; all without any
problems. Well done! What I would like to see is the LED enabled properly,
although the board uses a different header pin for each drive. Anyway, if I've
got it right, here is my suggested change.

Hmmm, thanks Bob, I guess I need to consider what else may be causing
my system to hang with my setup.

Hmm... according to the datasheet, this is SWLED.
SOFTWARE CONTROL LED ENABLE: When set, software has full control of
LED activity. When clear, the LED’s are controlled by hardware.
And then there are two more bits, LED0 and LED1 which seem to be the
actual control knob for LEDs. From the description it looks like the
bit should stay off so tha the controller hardware can drive LEDs. I
presume this doesn't work as described?

Nitpick: for flags, it's customary to use | instead of +.
Thanks.

Uh oh. It sounds like we may not be looking at the same book. The one
I have is "INIC-1620TA2/1622TA2/1623TA2", Version 1.4, October, 2005.
In this book, the bit is "03 rw 0 (LEDEN) LED ENABLE: When set, the
LED will flash when the device is busy." With your driver as-is, both LEDs
turn on during the boot process and then stay on completely.
Which book are you using and are all these bits in the Global Control register,
which we call HOST_CTL? Did I get an old book?

Are you aware that I had a card that "almost" worked, but

Bob,
It is a possibility, I guess I need to rape my laptop and replace a
drive with Windows on it to test just to be sure it isn't hardware.
Although I think you may be right, the card is duff.

Hmm... I have two - INIC-1622 V1.0 Septermber, 2003 and the one you
have. Till now, I haven't found any noticeable difference.
Apparently, the meaning of the bit has changed.

Yes, that's GCTRL. Can you please do the '+' -> '|' change and resend
the patch?
Thanks.

Sure; was just waiting to hear about the book versions in case they
had issued still another version.

Can you please format the message like the following with

Well, I can try. But I couldn't figure out how to put the header lines
which list changes, insertions and deletions. Sorry, but I'm not using
git and not familiar with git-diff or any of this formatting stuff. I have
an "a" and a "b" under directory /data/src/linxux-2.6.27-rc5. I ran the
following command to get the diff output that follows:
git-diff --src-prefix= --dst-prefix= -p a/drivers/ata/sata_inic162x.c
b/drivers/ata/sata_inic162x.c
If you can suggest what to run to also get the summary, I'll give it a shot.
Jeff,
This change enables the LED on the sata_inic162x.c driver.

Oh.. You can generate the summary using diffstat. Just do diffstat
-p1 < patch and paste the output in.
Thanks.
