Hi.
I have big problem working with sata_sil.
If I plugin SAMSUNG HD502IJ to one of 3512A and try to copy anything
from that drive to the same one big partition is always hard resetting
link and stops responds for 5 sec.

first is always timeout
status DRDY
hard resetting link

next some times drive error or HSM violation

I know that drive is good because I'v check it in diffrent hardware and os.

I'v test my config with WD800 and its work perfect.
What can I do with that?
What more information I must send to proper diagnose the problem?
I'v read lots of information on web, but nothing helps at all.
The only way to stops this problem is disable DMA with libata.dma=0 but
performance of this solution unacceptable.

I'll be very thanfull for any help.

 Kind regards.

The time record seems screwed.

But the recorded error is consistent with the kernel messages. It
looks like you're suffering serious transmission problem over the SATA
cable. Those transmission errors appear as timeouts or when the drive
detects it ABRTs w/ ICRC. Please check cable, power and try to
connect the drive to other ports.

Thanks.

I'v already try several cable and external power supply, but with the
same result.
This sata chip have only two sata port. If I connect to other one,
errors still appear.
I don't know what can I do else.
The only thing works fine is when I copy something from disk connected
to my Intel 82801DB (ICH4).

TIA

I'm afraid there's nothing much can be done from the driver here. Looks
like your drive's PHY is just bonkers or it just doesn't like talking to
the controller. Can you try the drive on a different controller?

Thanks.

As I wrote before, it was tested on different platform with different os
and it workek just fine.

Ah.. so, different drive works fine on the same configuration and the
same drive works fine on different configuration. I don't have much
idea how to fix it. It looks like a bad combination of hardware to me.
Maybe the add-on card is wiring cables slightly out of spec and the
receiving PHY of the drive is a bit too sensitive about it (note that
the controller is not reporting any PHY events but the drive is
reporting ICRC).
