Hello
My port multiplier capable eSATA Express Card refuses to talk to my
external HDD box (2 HDDs, JBOD mode).
Inserting the card into the Express Card slot looks normal:

Sometimes the messages look a bit different and one of the HDDs is
detected but never both.
The initial error seems to always be "failed to read SCR 0".
Does this look like a hardware or a software problem?

Which kernel version is this? Can you test latest git?

Sorry, I forgot the kernel version.
It is 2.6.31-14 (Ubuntu 9.10 amd64). I will try the latest vanilla kernel.
The card is able to talk to a single disk enclosure without problems, so
I would assume that either Port Multiplying or my external 2-disk box
is at fault here.
Regards, Peter.

Kernel 2.6.32-rc6 behaves exactly the same.
The driver seems to give up rather quickly. Maybe the external box needs
more time?

Well, the Emask 0x40 on the first error means AC_ERR_SYSTEM (system
error). There are a few places that gets set, but it's not clear which
one you might be hitting.. Could we be in a bad state when issuing the
PMP commands, like the port being frozen or something I wonder?

Early 5744 firmwares behaved pretty good but for some reason recent
ones are very peculiar. Emask=0x40 is happening probably because 5744
is blinking the link between reset completion and SCR accesses.
Emask=0x1 means that 5744 simply failed the read request. I'm not
quite sure what to do about them at this point. I'll ask around. :-(
Thanks.
