Happens with Linus' master at 509344b8b4d365b7ff3bce97198d83a57b7c3f31
The tree is modified, but I doubt the patches I have can cause this. I attach
then anyway. They never caused a conflict, so just the patches (in case of doubt
I can push the tree somewhere).
This is a regression from v2.6.35.
The machine is 64bit Core2Duo laptop (Dell XPS M1330).
The oops happens only with Ubuntu's hald running (9.04, hald 0.5.12).
The oops is reproducable. lsusb hangs (D state) after the oops.
Full dmesg and other machine data attached.

I can confirm the same Oops on an unpatched kernel from Linus' git
(v2.6.36-rc4-134-g03a7ab0). I have a Logitech G500 mouse.

However on my machine lsusb doesn't hang.

Hi Jiri,
sorry for the delay :(
yeah, it definitely fixes it for me: grepping for BUG or hiddev
doesn't show up anything anymore (I rebooted into a kernel without the
fglrx so that results wouldn't get falsified)
it now only shows:
dmesg | grep hiddev[ 2.560945] usbcore: registered new interface
driver hiddev

FWIW:
I removed the transmitter of the mouse (it's a wireless mouse) and
during insert (after the boot was finished) it showed a different
error message - perhaps it's useful in tracking down the culprit [I
hope that the fglrx-module was loaded doesn't make any change in its
usefulness]:

Actually this looks very similar to the BUG reported previously (EIP at
hiddev_open(), reached through usb_open()), so reverting
8fe294caf8c868edd9046251824a0af91991bf43 doesn't really seem to make
things any better in fact, right? Or did I misunderstand what you did?
Thanks,

For me too, it does help. No oops after reverting the commit.
