Subject: [PATCH RFC 5/5] proc: drop the _buf suffix from the new methods
Date: Mon, 02 Nov 2026 16:15:58 +0100	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <20261102-work-procfs-cleanup-v1-5-c40014bc12f5@kernel.org> (raw)
In-Reply-To: <20261102-work-procfs-cleanup-v1-0-c40014bc12f5@kernel.org>

The _buf suffix told them apart from ->proc_write(), ->proc_read() and
->proc_ioctl(), which copied to and from userspace themselves. Those
are gone now, and the read methods that are left are only for
permanent entries and say so in their names. So drop the suffix.
->proc_write(), ->proc_read() and ->proc_ioctl() are the methods that
work on procfs' buffers from now on, which is what kernfs calls its
read and write as well.

Done with sed. The flags and helpers in fs/proc that go with them are
renamed to match.

No functional changes.
