From: Lauri Leukkunen <lauri.leukkunen@nokia.com>

Discussions: http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-omap@vger.kernel.org/msg26748.html

Introduce a driver for the Texas Instruments TSC2005 touchscreen
controller (http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tsc2005.html).

The patch is based on a driver by Lauri Leukkunen, with modifications
by David Brownell, Phil Carmody, Imre Deak, Hiroshi DOYU, Ari Kauppi,
Tony Lindgren, Jarkko Nikula, Eero Nurkkala and Roman Tereshonkov.

+ * The touchscreen interface operates as follows:
+ *
+ * 1) Pen is pressed against the touchscreen.
+ * 2) TSC2005 performs AD conversion.
+ * 3) After the conversion is done TSC2005 drives DAV line down.
+ * 4) GPIO IRQ is received and tsc2005_irq_thread() is scheduled.
+ * 5) tsc2005_irq_thread() queues up an spi transfer to fetch the x, y, z1, z2
+ * values.
+ * 6) tsc2005_irq_thread() reports coordinates to input layer and sets up
+ *    tsc2005_penup_timer() to be called after TSC2005_PENUP_TIME_MS (40ms).
+ * 7) When the penup timer expires, there have not been touch or DAV interrupts
+ * during the last 40ms which means the pen has been lifted.
+ *
+ * ESD recovery via a hardware reset is done if the TSC2005 doesn't respond
+ * after a configurable period (in ms) of activity. If esd_timeout is 0, the
+ * watchdog is disabled.

Could you tell me how close TSC2005 is to TSC2007 (sans the different
interface - I2C vs SPI)?

Thanks.

I see. In this case I believe that, instead of creating completely
separate driver, we need to abstract bus access from tsc2007 and convert
the driver into tsc200x-core.c core piece and tcs2005.c/tsc2007.c
implementing just bus access methods. Pretty much what was done for
ad714x, adxl34x, ad7879 and other drivers.

I am not sure what this means... If you want to submit parts of platform
code through my tree that should be fine as long as respective
maintainer of given arch is OK with it as well.

Thanks.

Yeah the platform code depends on the tsc2005 header which
does not exist in the mainline kernel yet. I think I already
acked the platform related code to be merged via the input
list.

Tony

Hi Torkhov ,
Other differences between tsc2005 and tsc2007 driver are
request_threaded_irq is being used by tsc2005 and request_irq is being
used by tsc2007.
Similar type there are other differences in the both code where
tsc200x core need to implemented other then bus access methods, need to
discuss with tsc2007 driver to make it common implementation for both
drivers.More over added the kwlee@mtekvision.com who is contributor for
tsc2007 driver which is also need to modified for to tsc200x and
tsc2007.c.To adapt requires comments and discussion with kwlee and Lauri.
Please let me know your comments about this.So that patches to enable
touch screen driver in platform code can sent to input.
Regards,
Srikar

The tsc2005 driver used in recent nokia linux devices did not have
the request_threaded_irq(). The move to a threaded IRQ (and the removal
of stuff whose presence in low-level drivers has been debated) was
done purely to make this driver more upstreamable by using the cleanest
and simplest architecture now available, which wasn't available in the
kernel we were using.

So, Dmitry, we were, and are, trying to make it easier for you to accept,
honest ;-)

I think Lauri might be a little out of the loop currently. He's marked
as the author of the driver because historically the code was an evolution
of his tsc2003 (or similar) driver. He might not recognise the code any
more, I don't know.

Phil

I think there are more differences than just the bus access. The command
interface is different, including register definitions. TSC2007 data
sheet mentions it's compatible with TSC2003 but does not mention TSC2005.

I would keep them separate, and I think this patch should be
applied for .39 (the subject is wrong - it's just a single patch:
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/357012/).
