Hi Lists,

This is a series of patches to add support for newer generations of ELAN
touchpad.

Patches #1~#6 are essentially fixes and cleanups that pave the way for
patch #7 and patch #8, which really adds code for v3 and v4 hardware.

Any comments, suggestoins are welcome.

Please take a look at patch #8, which adds support for the latest touchpads from ELAN.
It is a true multi-touch capable touchpad that can track up to 5 fingers.
Support is implemented using MT-B protocol. I used synaptics and multitouch X
driver to test this driver, both worked fine.

Changes since v1:
- drop EC workaround patch.
- add patch #2, make ST and MT have the same range, as Dmitry suggested.
- add patch #4, remove ETP_EDGE_FUZZ_V2, as Éric suggested.
- rename all packet checking functions so they are consistent.
- some code cleanup, and don't report ABS_[XY] when fingers == 0, as Seth suggested.
- add document for v3 debounce, and now check debounce in elantech_packet_check_v3.

[PATCH v5 2/8] Input: elantech - get rid of ETP_2FT_* in elantech.h

[JJ Ding]

For two finger touches the coordinate of each finger gets reported
separately but with reduced resolution.

With this change, we now have the same range for ST and MT data and
scale MT data because it has lower resolution to match ST.

[PATCH v5 4/8] Input: elantech - remove ETP_EDGE_FUZZ_V2

[JJ Ding]

Don't try to be too clever and remove ETP_EDGE_FUZZ_V2. X, Y ranges
should be just the raw resolution of the device. Otherwise, they can
cause underflow on the Y axis.

[PATCH v5 5/8] Input: elantech - packet checking for v2 hardware

For v2 hardware, there is no real parity check, but we can still check
some constant bits for data integrity.

Also rename elantech_check_parity_v1 to elantech_packet_check_v1 to make
these packet checking function names consistent.

[PATCH v5 7/8] Input: elantech - add v3 hardware support

[JJ Ding]

v3 hardware's packet format is almost identical to v2 (one/three finger touch),
except when sensing two finger touch, the hardware sends 12 bytes of data.

Originally, v3 was using semi-mt, which reported corner coordinates of
a box containing at least two of the N touches on the touchpad.  I
thought this was due to hardware limitation.

If the hardware really can report true positions for (up to) 3
contacts, then using pure MT-B is a good approach.  This driver still
seems to mix semi-mt and MT-B together a bit.

Can you report all three contacts in their own slots, 0, 1 and 2,
instead of just reoprting two of them with 0,1?

Also, when reporting the 'legacy single touch' coordinate (ABS_X,
ABS_Y), please use:
input_mt_report_pointer_emulation(), instead of always reporting the
last (x1,y1).  Otherwise the single touch point will bounce back and
forth between 1st and 3rd touch.

v3 can only track the true positions of two fingers. With 3 finger
touch, it reports the lowest value of x and the biggest value of y,
among the three fingers. v3 changed the protocol so it could report
2-finger touch data w/o reduced resolution and improved the hardware to
truly track 2 fingers independently, otherwise it's pretty much the same
as v2.

If I read this code correctly, it looks like in the 3-finger case,
(x1,y1) as reported in the (ABS_X, ABS_Y), and in the call to
elantech_report_semi_mt_data() will bounce back and forth between the
1st finger and 3rd finger ("lowest value of x and the biggest value of
y").  Won't this be very confusing for userspace (i.e.
xf86-input=synaptics)?

In fact, I'm not sure how "lowest value of x and the biggest value of
y" can be reported to userspace in a useful way at the same time as
two absolute finger positions.

Perhaps just report up to 2 MT-B slots, for the first two fingers, and
only report "3 fingers on the pad" with BTN_TOOL_TRIPLETAP  (see the
recent "synaptics image sensor" patchset for a similar
implementation):

Oh, never mind.  Sorry for the confusion.  I guess in the 3-finger
case, you only get "3-finger" packets containing the single ("lowest
value of x and the biggest value of y") bounding box coordinate, not
V3_HEAD/V3_TAIL packets.
I believe this shouldn't be reported as MT-B slot 0, though.  If
anything, perhaps you should use MT-B slot 2 for this coordinate?
It's not really the third finger, but at least it won't be considered
a continuation of the motion of the first finger.
I guess you really have no choice but to use it as the (ABS_X, ABS_Y)
coordinate.

Is the following what you mean, Daniel?

I tested the follwing patch (against patch #8) with multitouch X input
driver. 2-finger scrolling is affected by this change. The scrollbar
always jumps back to where it started. I don't really know what's causing
this. If someone knows what I did wrong, please correct me. Maybe after
fixing this misbehavior, we can start using
input_mt_report_pointer_emulation() for v2 and v3 hardware, too.

I've tested this series (plus the patch for debounce packet on v2) on my 
old v2 hardware, and it worked fine :-)
