There is no real point of registering an empty input node.
This should be default, but given some drivers need the blank input
node to set it up during input_configured, we need to postpone
the check for hidinput_has_been_populated().

Given that now the quirk handling is done in hid-quirk.c, we can actually
reset the quirks before calling .probe(), so that the drivers do not need
to keep track of initial quirks.

We currently do not have a NOMMU port.  As far as I know, everyone who's
currently producing RISC-V hardware with enough memory to run Linux has S mode
with paging support.  The ISA allows for S mode without paging but there's no
hardware for that -- if you're going to put a DRAM controller on there then
paging seems pretty cheap.  You could run a NOMMU port on a system with S-mode
and paging, but With all the superpage stuff I don't think you'll get an
appreciable performance win for any workload running without an MMU so there's
nothing to justify the work (and incompatibility) of a NOMMU port there.

While I think you could implement a NOMMU port on a machine with only M and U
modes (and therefor no address translation at all), I don't know of any MU-only
machines that have enough memory to run Linux (ours have less than 32KiB).  A
SBI-free Linux would be a prerequisite for this, but there's some interest in
that outside of a NOMMU port so it might materialize anyway.

Of course, QEMU could probably be tricked into emulating one of these machines
with little to no effort :)...  That said, I doubt we'll see a NOMMU port
materialize without some real hardware as it's a lot of work for a QEMU-only
target.

This works fine, thanks. IMO, it is better than command 0x8e.
 I also found that register 0x07 controls the cursor keys emulation:
  * 87 03 07 07 00: disable
  * 87 03 07 03 00: enable (03 or 03
  * 87 03 07 00 00: set "joystick mode" (?)

But I cannot find a similar register to disable the enter/esc keys, for
that I still need commands 0x85 and 0x81. 

Can you tell me if there is a register to configure the enter/esc
emulation? That would be nice, because I could enable disable the lizard
mode with a single report: (87 09 07 07 00 08 07 00 xx 07 00).

Hi,

This series is a combination of Atmel touchscreen driver stopping using
platform data and moving over to generic device properties, and
chromeos-laptop switching from being platform driver, which is the wrong
abstraction for it, and moving to using i2c bis notifier. Switching from
platform driver to the notifiers allows us to get rid of the ugly code that
manually tries to handle deferrals in case i2c bus is not ready at the time
we start initializing the module.

The way we are supposed to put controller to sleep and wake it up does not
depend on the platform, but rather on controller itself, so we want to get
rid of suspend mode in platform data (and eventually get rid of platform
data completely). Unfortunately some early chromebooks (the original Pixel,
Acer C720) were shipped with config that requires manually re-enabling
touch reporting in T9. We will sort it out, but in the meantime let's
switch to a simple DMI quirk.

We'll keep pdata->suspend_mode for now and remove it when we rework
chromeos-laptop driver.

Move older ChromeOS devices describing Atmel controllers in ACPI, but not
providing enough details to configure the controllers properly, from

Instead of having separate setup() functions responsible for instantiating
i2c client for each peripheral, let's generalize the behavior and use
common code for instantiating all i2c peripherals.

Instead of trying to parse DMI IRQ data every time we try to instantiate a
device, let's do it once, when we identify the device we are working with.
This allows us to mark chromeos_laptop_get_irq_from_dmi() as __init and
discard it once module is initialized.

Instead of using platform device and deferrals to handle the case when i2C
adapters appear late in the game, and not handling device unbinding all
that well, let's switch to using I2C bus notifier to get told when a new
I2C adapter appears in the system, and attempt to add appropriate devices
at that time.

In case when we have 2 Designware adapters in the system (Acer C720),
instead of counting and hoping they get enumerate din the right order,
let's switch to using their PCI devids (slot/function) that should be
stable.

Instead of passing interrupt flags via platform data to drivers, or
hoping that drivers will do the right thing and set it up the way we
need, let's set up IRQ resource and attach it to the I2C board info, and
let I2C core set it up for us.

Mark board data as __intconst/__initdata and make a copy of appropriate
entry once we identified the board we are running on. The rest of the data
will be discarded once the kernel finished booting (or module finished

Hmm. So thanks to the diseased mind of Martin Uecker, there's a better
test for "__is_constant()":

that is actually *specified* by the C standard to work, and doesn't
even depend on any gcc extensions.

The reason is some really subtle pointer conversion rules, where the
type of the ternary operator will depend on whether one of the
pointers is NULL or not.

And the definition of NULL, in turn, very much depends on "integer
constant expression that has the value 0".

Are you willing to do one final try on a generic min/max? Same as my
last patch, but using the above __is_constant() test instead of
__builtin_constant_p?

Well, it does depend on 'sizeof(*(void *)X)' being 1 and the compiler
not complaining about it, and that sizeof(int) is not 1.

But since we depend on those things in the kernel anyway, that's fine.

It also depends upon "ICE for null pointer constant purposes" having the
same extensions as "ICE for enum purposes", etc., which is not obvious.

Back in 2007 or so we had a long thread regarding null pointer constants
in sparse; I probably still have notes from back then, but that'll take
some serious digging to find ;-/

What's more, gcc definitely has odd extensions.  Example I remember from
back then:
extern unsigned n;
struct {
	int x : 1 + n - n;
} y;

is accepted.  Used to be quietly accepted with -Wpedantic -std=c99, even,
but that got fixed - with -Wpedantic it does, at least, warn.  What is
and what is not recognized is fairly random - 1 + n - n + 1 + n - n
is recognized as "constant", 1 + n + n + 1 - n - n is not.  Of course,
neither is an ICE.
