Dear Sir/Madam,

I am using RedHat7.1 with Kernel version 2.4.2-2. I downloaded the binaries patch-generator0.91beta7 rpm. i follow the instructions(i.e. ./configure and then make in PATCHES, then a patch -p1 < /xx/xxx/PATCHES/xxxxx.patch) to patch the kernel and everything wents well when i do a make config in the /usr/src/linux, configuring the LVM as a modules.

But i cannot do a make modules, after i make dep;make clean;make bzlilo, lots of compilation errors jump out.
I then try compile the LVM in the kernel by running make config again. after i build everything, when i run the vgscan, it says "lvmiopversion -- LVM driver/module not loaded?"

Seemingly the LVM module/compilation doesn't work for this kernel.

Could u please help me on it?

Thanks very much in advance.

Best regards
Leo Wong

I'm running Redhat 7.1 kernel vmlinux-2.4.2-2smp. I have tried a number
of times and can only conclude that I'm missing some step(s).
I have downloaded and installed the following RPMs from
ftp://ftp.sistina.com/pub/LVM/binaries/redhat/0.9.1_beta in the order:

1) lvm-base-1.1-1.i386.rpm
rebooted
2a) lvm-iop10-0.9.1_beta7-1.i386.rpm
2b) lvm-iop10-lib-0.9.1_beta7-1.i386.rpm
3) lvm-iop10-man-0.9.1_beta7-1.i386.rpm
4) lvm-iop10-patchgen-0.9.1_beta7-1.i386.rpm
rebooted

Per the instructions in the LVM HOWTO section 7.4
I edited the /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit to add the following lines:

/sbin/vgscan
/sbin/vgchange -ay

and the file /etc/rc.d/init.d/halt with the following line

/sbin/vgchange -an

I boot my system using PowerQuest BootMagic and enter my Redhat
Partition.
As Linux is booting and the vgscan is executed I see the following error
message:

vgscan
lvmiopversion -- LVM driver/module not loaded?

vgscan: /lib/lvm-iop not found. Is lvm-iop installed?

I get the same message if I try to run vgscan after logging in and the
same or similar message from any vg command.

Also when I run lsmod, I do not see LVM listed and it is not under
/proc.

I verified the install of all five rpm(s) and do not understand what I
may be doing wrong.

I can only conclude that it is not loading and I'm missing something.

Please HELP

Thanks
Tom

I have had success with the 2.4.3 kernel from RedHat. The difference is I
didn't use RPMS, but went with the pure tarball. Following the INSTALL
instructions worked perfectly for me.

I am running a Mandrake 8.0 2.4.8 (or 2.4.9) kernel and cannot find the patch files on the ftp site.

Has anyone thought to add the "FAQ" into the "How-To" or create a combined PDF version of the FAQ/How-To or a PDF version of the FAQ?

Hi,
I need a LVM patch, witch is working with a 2.4.5-xfs-1.0.1 kernel on RedHat
7.1.
I got the xfs patches from http://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/patchlist.html.

Greetings, Sebastian.

I am trying to install LVM-1.0.1-rc4 on a S/390 SuSe 7.0 system with kernel
2.2.16.
Has anyone successfully managed to create a patch for kernel 2.2.16 ?
I have copied the fragments-2.2.18 to 2.2.16 and have made the
lvm-1.0.1-rc4-2.2.16.patch file.
It will need some reworking to get the patch to apply correctly. Has
anyone else succeded in doing this, and have they shared the patch file ?

Thanks,
