Some bug fixes and minor enhancements. (See the WHATS_NEW files.)
ftp://sources.redhat.com/pub/dm/device-mapper.1.02.04.tgz
ftp://sources.redhat.com/pub/lvm2/LVM2.2.02.03.tgz
The tools should cope better now if faced with multiple distinct
VGs with the same name. 'pvs -P /dev/whatever -o+vg_uuid' output
should be reliable, and vgrename accepts a VG uuid as first
argument.
And libdevmapper has support again for older 2.6 kernels that
can't handle mapped device referencing by device number.

And both are still "development" , not "stable" ?
What is criteria of "stability" and do you plan to release stable versions ?
And how stable are versions that included in RedHat/Fedora Core
distributions ?
Thanks

The labelling is like a 'release candidate' process: if no significant
problems reveal themselves with a particular release after a
reasonable amount of time, and I believe it is at least as 'stable' as
the existing release labelled 'stable', I'll move the label forward.
None of the lvm2 2.02 releases so far deserved that label - there was
some problem or other with each of them. With the current release,
I think we're quite close now.

RHEL aims at stability and so takes bug fixes more quickly than it
takes enhancements and other changes.
Fedora tracks upstream development more closely.

Hi All,
Last day I tried out these new versions but the new lvm2 release gave me
some issues. I was thinking that it was a my compilation mistake but
today I updated my fedora rawhide and the latest version of lvm2
(2.02.04) was installed and I had the same problems.
Here's the list of actions I did to create the pv, vg and lv and some
tries to activate them:

Going back to a previous version of lvm (a CVS snapshot previous to the

Let me know if this is a my mistake or how can help you debugging the
problem.
Thanks!
Bye!

I just wanted to add that I am seeing this issue as well. 2.02.03 and
2.02.04 both seem to suffer the same problem. Downgrading to 2.02.02
seems to fix this issue.
vgscan --version
LVM version: 2.02.02 (2006-02-07)
Library version: 1.02.05 (2006-04-19)
Driver version: 4.4.0
vgscan

Found volume group "vg01" using metadata type lvm2
Found volume group "vg02" using metadata type lvm2
with 2.02.03 or 2.02.04 I get this
vgscan

WARNING: Duplicate VG name vg01: Existing

I have not rebooted between these upgrades I am not sure if that would
matter. However, it appears that there are other people who have seen
this issue as well as noted in gentoo's bug reports and forums system.

Same issue here. Something definitely broken. Had to revert mapper and
lvm2 to previous versions:
# rpm -q device-mapper lvm2
device-mapper-1.02.02-3.2
lvm2-2.02.01-1.2.1

I've checked a fix into CVS.
