The chip on  my card has been chemically wiped I think - there aren't any scratches or scrapes on it.  Despite my best efforts with multiple light sources, I still can't identify it.  In the meantime, I wrote to Kworld asking them to identify the chip in question, or to provide some kind of details allowing us to communicate with whatever device handles the remote control.  They responded a few days ago indicating that they would pass my request on to the engineering department.  That department has not responded yet.

If none of the developers have this board (Kworld - 120 ATSC/NTSC tuner 
card) to play with ...  well, if someone would give me "turn-by-turn" 
(airport talk for "I'm sitting on the tarmac, how do I get to the gate) 
directions I can try to probe the card to find out more.  I just don't 
have the time to research the tools to do the job and how to go about 
using them.  My board is in a Mythtv SBE Debian/Unstable system and is 
working great if only to capture ATSC OTA broadcasts (i.e. no IR control 
and no NTSC).

KWorld 120 IR control?

Hi...

This is my monthly (humm, more like quarterly) bump to see if anyone has 
looked at (or can tell me what to do with) the KWorld 120 video4linux 
drivers when it comes to getting the IR hardware to work.

I would think, by now, there are a lot of these cards out there.  Were 
not the KWorld 110 and 115 ATSC tuners popular here?  And haven't they 
been replaced by the KWorld 120?  If so, what are people doing for IR?

from Thursday on this to get it in.

Based on this, likely Dwaine Garden is the one who can further proceed
for the Kworld stuff too.

Hey, thanks to all who have contributed to the KWorld-120 v4l driver! 
If it wasn't obvious, I've been enjoying the sound and video from my v4l 
driven KWorld-120 for months now.

So, are these IR remote control patches in Staging (the v4l somewhat 
stable pre-release version).  I've pulled and compiled from that repo 
before - no problem if that's where the new IR code is.

there have been patches on the lists for KS003 and KS007 i2c driven
remotes, but nothing is in yet.

Brian Rogers current version likely will make it in now for the saa7134
MSI TV@nywhere, based on Henry Wong's old patch.

Mauro will have a look at it again next week after Portland.

It likely can provide the base for other cards and drivers too then.

Sorry to bother you guys again.  But some Brick and Mortar Frys stores 
(on line it's still the full $60) have this card on sale.

Perhaps if you could tell me (us) what to watch for in the different v4l 
repositories we could track this feature our selves.

hmm, you called it successor/replacement of the Kworld saa7134 ATSC
cards and I thought this would indicate that there is a KS003 or KS007
i2c controller with 16 pins at 0x30.

This is likely wrong.

The patch for the KS003 on the saa7134 MSI TV@nywhere is in v4l-dvb now.

I think it was not reported yet, what IR controller is on the ATSC 120.
Maybe it is some known stuff and support can be added easily, but dunno.

Please be patient, can't tell if Mauro had any time to look at the
remote at all so far.

You can try to identify the remote and controller chip by searching
through http://www.bttv-gallery.de.

You find already supported Kworld cards then in cx88-input.c,
saa7134-input.c ...

     * Samsung S5H1409 (digital demodulator, Conexant CX24227 compatible)
     * Conexant cx23880 (A/V Decoder & PCI bridge)

Status

As of 27 Mar 2008 and revision 7448 of the main v4l-dvb repository, this 
card can be used in both analog and digital ATSC modes via a set of 
experimental drivers. The FM radio, composite video, and S-Video inputs 
all work when the card is initialized into analog mode. Due to a 
resource conflict in the driver caused by this card's architecture, a 
reboot is necessary to switch between analog and ATSC modes. The cause 
of this issue has been located, and work is ongoing to fix it.

The remote control is not currently supported in any mode, yet.

The Line-out jack is somewhat functional, but is not considered ready to 
use, yet.

Hi Stuart,

thanks, I tried to look it up better this time and saw this already at
the linuxtv wiki. Also found a reasonable picture, but not good enough.
At least no 16 pins KS007 so far.

We must identify the IR controller chip.

Guessing doesn't help any further.

The only thing you can blindly try, see the v4l-wiki about remotes, is
to start with a mask of 0x0 for key codes and hope something happens on
the GPIOs.

this needs correction. KS003 and KS007 both have 18 pins and are clearly
marked with these names. They are on many recent Kworld products.

Maybe somebody else saw it already.

It should be the chip with 20 pins in position U9, unfortunately only
marked with a green colored spot and connected to the xtal X0 16MHz in
front of the radio RF input.

We have an unknown gpio remote controller marked with a grey spot on the
saa7131e Kworld TV Studio Terminator, but 18 pins and 20MHz clock and
that smaller grey remote with 36 keys. Usually RM-Kum01 and xtal 4MHz.
Also one only with a blue spot on Kworld Creator TV MCE 100 Pro and
remote with 32 keys. (BTW, some rare KS008 is on Cinergy 250 PCI)

		ir_codes     = ir_codes_pixelview;
		mask_keycode = 0x00001f;
		mask_keyup   = 0x000060;

On cx88-input.c all Kworld stuff has that too.

		ir->mask_keyup = 0x60;

But you switch already some pins within mask_keycode on MO_GP1_IO.
Maybe on MO_GP0_IO. Is that gpio0 and gpio2 stuff needed at all in the
card's entry? If not, but some of the first 8 gpios are connected, might
be the remote. Needs to have the cx23880 pinning at hand, but seems
there are no simply visible connections from that green marked chip.
Maybe worth to try with mask_keycode = 0x0.

On the other hand, on the backside seem to be two lines from that chip
more in direction to the tuner. Could hang on i2c there, but can't tell.
Does any unknown device show up with cx88xx i2c_scan=1?

20 pins and 16MHz clock seems to be new. How many keys/buttons has the
remote?

That is not much, but hopefully better than nothing.
I can't exclude that the controller needs some sort of
initialization/activation or maybe even uses a new IR protocol,
but testing in the above directions should not be too much work.

I looked and found an 8 and 16 pin SMD IC on my kworld 120.  The 16 pin 
device turned out to be a multi-bit A/D converter, not an I2C 
controller.  After reading the above again I believe I understand what 
20 pin device you are talking about.  Just right of the composite video 
input past the Xtl in this photo:

The remote for my kworld 120 has 35 keys. (My kworld 110 remote has 
about 45 keys.)

It looks like composite input, but indeed is radio RF input.
We have this on many boards with silicon tuners since a while.

If by this you mean to add an appropriate line to /etc/modprobe.d/options...  Here's what I got in dmesg when I did this (after a clean reboot with no cx88-related modules loaded):

cx88[0]: i2c scan: found device @ 0x32  [???]
cx88[0]: i2c scan: found device @ 0x34  [???]
cx88[0]: i2c scan: found device @ 0x66  [???]
cx88[0]: i2c scan: found device @ 0xa0  [eeprom]
cx88[0]: i2c scan: found device @ 0xc2  [tuner (analog/dvb)]

If you need more from the dmesg output, let me know.

Yes, that is what should be examined.

Can't say anything offhand, since I don't have the card and there are
also lots of devices using the same subset of i2c addresses.

These are addresses in read mode. In write mode they change binary >> 1
and in hex /2. Means 0x34 becomes 0x1a.

I don't believe it is related, but in ir-kbd-i2c there is an old
Hauppauge bttv device at 0x1a, but might be the demod or whatever here.

I think we left off last year w/a green dotted I2C mystery chip on the 
kworld 120 cards that no one could identify.  Anyone know more about the 
subject?
