hi,
i have a happauge HVR4000 and all works fine, analogue TV and DVB-S was
tested by me so, all would be fine except the fact, that there is
DVB-S2 support noted on the wiki
http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-4000 site.
so basically my question is, what makes you think, that HVR4000 is able
to play DVB-S2 streams when it doesn't?!
so I have tried this out, run w_scan which printed me also all the
DVB-S2 channels out and provided me a tuning list (channels.conf) and
then I tried to tune in w/ "szap-s2 -S 1 -c ~/.mplayer/channels.conf
ZDFHD"
the output is:
--------------
zapping to 1 'ZDFHD':
delivery DVB-S2, modulation 8PSK (i tried QPSK as well)
sat 0, frequency 11361 MHz H, symbolrate 22000000, coderate auto,
rolloff 0.35 vpid 0x17de, apid 0x17e8, sid 0x2b66
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
status 01 | signal dbc0 | snr 0000 | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 |
status 03 | signal db40 | snr 0000 | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 |
status 01 | signal dbc0 | snr 0000 | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 |
status 01 | signal dbc0 | snr 0000 | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 |
--------------
so, and that is basically the same as w/ my old NOVA-S CL.
the fact, that he is not able to get a lock tells me, that there is no
DVB-S2 kind of thing on this HVR4000 and I bought my card for nothing,
except that now I have a newer card, w/ FM and analog TV, maybe DVB-T
as well, but i tested that one as well and it doesn't work as well, so
I wouldn't say that that card is able to do DVB-T as well.
there are USB sticks, like my VOLAR-HD or my Equinox Tube, that ones do
DVB-T really, but not this HVR4000, so it is a 3in1 card w/ DVB-S,
analog TV and FM, at best, as long as I don't know if FM works.

I use it for DVB-S2 under vdr without problem, and I tested (a long time
ago) DVB-T under kaffeine (I don't have KDE installed at the moment).
So the card is definitely able to do DVB-S2 or DVB-T (the card can't do
both simultaneously).

yes? thats a shame! how you can use it under VDR, when it doesnt even
tune in with szap-s2? please provide a better look at how you managed
to get this card working and it would be helpful to provide some
szap-s2 output on a HD / DVB-S2 channel, so that I can see if it tunes
in to you.

??? It was the developpement process and Disecq wasn't working right in
the driver, which is now fixed, so the time I spent for this card should
be good for you.

No offence. But all these problems are complete FUD. I've been using a
HVR-4000 and a NOVA-HD-S2 since VDR 1.7.0 (which required multiproto)
and since I made the S2API-patch for VDR 1.7.0 (which I released in
October 2009). I've never experienced these issues in the past 1,5
years.
DiSEqC handling is no problem at all. I've set it up with DiSEqC 1.0
and 1.2 in combination with VDR. And I've never seen any lock problems
with DVB-S2 channels using QPSK or 8PSK modulation on Hotbird 13.0e,
Astra 19.2e, Astra 23.5e and Astra 28.2e.
If you need channellists (why even use something like szap, scan or
wscan if you can download it yourself), just go to Linowsat [1] or VDR
Settings [2]. And here's an example for a diseqc.conf which I've used
since the beginning:
# port 1 option a position a -> Astra 19.2e
# port 2 option a position b -> Hotbird 13.0e
# port 3 option b position a -> Astra 23.5e
# port 4 option b position b -> Astra 28.2e / Eurobird 28.5e

OK,
i am using w_scan, it scanned and found DVB-S2 channels but szap-s2
doesnt tune in and there is no data, exactly like i said, so either you
are lying and you have none of this things running or you were paid by
huappauge to say this.
i am using fedora 13 and HVR4000 and only DVB-S works. mplayer has the
same problem and again - I have no diseq switch installed.

Me? Lying? Before even telling me that I'm paid by Hauppauge, please
be sure to read my post. I wrote that it works like a charm in
combination with VDR (Google it). I've never used szap-s2 since I use
VDR for my TV playback.
By my better judgement I'm going to give you an other option. If you
want to watch some TV without many options to configure (just install,
scan and watch through VLC, mplayer, xbmc or whatever), you might want
to check TV Headend
(http://www.lonelycoder.com/hts/tvheadend_overview.html). It works
like a charm with my NOVA-HD-S2.
Oh and for your information. The DVB-T and DVB-S[2] of the device
can't be used at the same time. It's not a driver issue, it's a
hardware issue. In Windows you aren't able to do the same.
The card (if it's the HVR-4000 or the NOVA-HD-S2) works perfectly
under Linux. I even got it working with Kaffeine.

how do you think i watch DVB-S?
now you are lying, and that for sure!
because mplayer has still this tunig issue, because he doesnt know that
coderate shit, and even so, i tried it w/ szap-s2 -r option and tried
to play it and only sound came out, so ... maybe you should check it
before writing again.
VLC and these ... players will do the same ... there is nothing better
than mplayer out there. mplayer is the best!!
i know, that DVB-T on HVR4000 is supported by linux, because yes it
works to me, but it doesnt find any programmes, so i would suggest you
try it out by yourself before writing again. like I wrote to the first
post - it works but is not usable (maybe internal noise too high).
analog TV works, and FM i didnt check.

I do not. Please, read my information carefully. You seem to miss something.

To proof to you (and the rest of this world) I'm not lying or
whatever, here's my attempt with scan-s2 and szap-s2:
- I made an file called hd_astra with the following contents:
S 11361000 H 22000000 2/3
- Then I scanned with scan-s2:
./scan-s2 -o zap ./hd_astra > ~/channels.conf
- Which gave me the following information:
Das Erste HD:11361:h:0:22000:6010:6020:11100:6
ZDF HD:11361:h:0:22000:6110:6120:11110:6
arte HD:11361:h:0:22000:6210:6221:11120:6
- Then I used szap-s2
./szap-s2 -c ~/channels.conf -S 1 -M 5 -C 23 -n 2
- Which gave me the following output:
root@ubuntu:/usr/local/src/szap-s2# ./szap-s2 -c ~/channels.conf -S 1
-M 5 -C 23 -n 2
reading channels from file '/home/htpc/channels.conf'
zapping to 2 'ZDF HD':
delivery DVB-S2, modulation 8PSK
sat 0, frequency 11361 MHz H, symbolrate 22000000, coderate 2/3, rolloff 0.35
vpid 0x17de, apid 0x17e8, sid 0x2b66
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
status 00 | signal 05aa | snr 002e | ber 00000000 | unc fffffffe |
status 1b | signal 05aa | snr 002c | ber 00000000 | unc fffffffe | FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1b | signal 05aa | snr 002d | ber 00516155 | unc fffffffe | FE_HAS_LOCK

status 1b | signal 05aa | snr 002c | ber 00000000 | unc fffffffe | FE_HAS_LOCK
It locks. So mplayer should make it work. I can't test this since I
don't have mplayer installed. But I think that some apologies are in
order, since the issue is not with your hardware or szap-s2.

you are right, it locks i found out by myself even before you had sent
this mail, you can check it, but try to play it with xine, you have
xine installed, like you said and lets see if that works!

apologies to whom? to hauppauge?
the fact that it didnt lock in is a fact and the fact that mplayer
doesnt play it from dvr0 or from itselfs chennels.conf list is a fact
as well and then we have this DVB-T issue...
you know what, you were not helpful at all, all you do is arguing with
me what works and what doesnt, first you write how good it works and
everything is fine and now you are presenting this hack, because the HW
doesnt do sth. would be acceptable to say it first but not argumenting
that you were right using this knowlegde i found out by myself before.

and lets not forget, we have both found out that it does lock, but that
isnt dvb-s2 because there is no video, so what is it for?
it doesnt mean anything as long as there is no picture.
