Hi,

this is a DD4 rev. 1.0 (0fe9:db78).

I'm running an up-to-date ubuntu-7.10 amd64 desktop
(booted from USB-stick) (Linux mybox 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP
 Tue Feb 12 02:46:46 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux)

I failed to get the card running.
Could someone please give me a hint what I missed?
(If I should provide more details, just ask.)

I followed <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DViCO_Dual_Digital_4> and:
- compiled the drivers this morning:
 1. sudo apt-get install mercurial linux-headers-generic build-essential
 2. hg clone http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb
 3. cd v4l-dvb
 4. make
 5. sudo make installa
    (No errors/ warnings here)

- downloaded the following firmware-files to /lib/firmware [0]:
 6. wget http://www.linuxtv.org/downloads/firmware/dvb-usb-bluebird-01.fw
 7. wget http://www.itee.uq.edu.au/~chrisp/Linux-DVB/DVICO/dvb-usb-bluebird-02.fw
 8. wget http://www.itee.uq.edu.au/~chrisp/Linux-DVB/DVICO/xc3028-dvico-au-01.fw
 9. sudo cp *.fw /lib/firmware

Rebooting results in general protection faults[1].
(BTW: What modules [and in which sequence] should be modprobed anyway?)

Note:
To be able to boot normally I had to remove the lines with 'tuner-xc2028.ko'
and 'tuner.ko' from /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/modules.dep .

The card is detected.

Any ideas if thses general protection faults are driver or firmware related?

Any constructive tips are welcome.
Thanks in advance for your time!

Regards, Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Same as me.

This is a Gentoo box.

It seems to work fine for me - the only issue I have is that the card
silently drops the signal if the reception isn't great.

I have dvb-usb-cxusb in my "module autoload" scripts, that seems to pull
in all the required modules.

I wonder whether this is related to your problem? lsmod lists
tuner_xc2028 loaded, as this is the tuner on the card (see my kernel's
messages below.) By removing that module you may have tricked the
kernel into thinking the module is loaded and ready when it's not, hence
the crash.

Maybe you could get around it my manually inserting that module first,
before anything else?

I know, the module is necessary for the CARD to work properly.
When I don't exclude it from modules.dep the PC doesn't boot normally.
That's my problem.

The init of xc2028 seg faults.
WITH tuner-xc2028 in /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/modules.dep
modprobe FAILS during the boot-phase.

> Maybe you could get around it my manually inserting that module first,
> before anything else?

Let's see if we get more debug-details.

I rmmod'ed all modules and re-installed them in the following sequence:
modprobe -v dvb-core debug=1
modprobe -v dvb-usb debug=1
modprobe -v dvb-pll debug=1
modprobe -v tuner-xc2028 debug=1
modprobe -v zl10353 debug=1
modprobe -v dvb-usb-cxusb debug=1

The last modprobe added to /var/log/kern.log:

That tuner_info isn't executed on my system.
Seems the memcpy before breaks.
--- tuner-xc2028.c ---
        memcpy(&fe->ops.tuner_ops, &xc2028_dvb_tuner_ops,
               sizeof(xc2028_dvb_tuner_ops));
--- tuner-xc2028.c ---

Thank you for including the log of a working installation.

Regards, Thomas

Hi,

the card seems to be broken.

On Sun, Mar 30, 2008 at 07:15:55PM +0200, Thomas Schuering wrote:

This happened when using 'hg clone http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb'.

When I used 'hg clone http://linuxtv.org/hg/~pascoe/xc-test/'
instead the seg-faults were gone.

As I still didn't receive a signal from the card,
I asked a friend to install it under WinXP.

He couldn't get the card to work unter XP because of 'unkown errors',
He has no problems with his own dvb-t card, so I guess my card is broken.
