[linux-dvb] Analog capture (saa7113) not working on KNC1 DVB-C Plus (MK3)

Hello,

with a KNC One "TV-Station DVB-C Plus" PCI card (MK3 - Philips SAA7146
with CU1216L/A I G H-3 Tunerbox with TDA10023) equipped with composite 
and s-video inputs ('Plus' version, Philips SAA7113), analog capture 
is not working. Most recent kernel sources I tested were 2.6.25-rc7.

DVB-C television works fine with this card using 'budget_av' kernel
module (from kernel 2.6.20 on, using e9hack's tda1002x patch, and
later with mainstream kernel sources alone), but when opening an
analog input, there are no data coming. A black screen is shown with
'xawtv' application. Xawtv correctly shows up the two video sources
this card provides: 'S-Video' and 'Composite'. 

I checked the cables and video sources, they work fine with another
card with analog input.

I can do tests or compile something if you want me to. Information from 
lspci, dmesg and lsmod please see below. Help to get analog capture
working is appreciated very much.

Thx for the confirmation, I've reported this before at 12/2007 with topic

budget_av 'plus' cards saa7113 capture broken by CI code or incomplete

on this list. the videobuf reworks broke it or all the foreign CI code 
in budget_av.c is disturbing the saa7113 circuit part of the card.
on this list, CI CAM functionality has priority it seems. sorry.

You seem rather unsure about what exactly was breaking it. But did it
work at a certain point of time anyway? All I know is analog input of
this card was already not functional under kernel 2.6.20.

I wish so much it could be fixed or implemented, because I need the
analog inputs very much for various devices. I bought the KNC1 card
especially for its analog inputs (25 EUR more for the analog inputs)

The motherboard here has only one PCI slot, so a workaround with a
second card (bt878 analog capture works) is not possible. 

At the moment, I can make the Composite/S-Video devices accessible only
if I put the KNC1 card out of the computer and put the bt878 card in,
thus losing DVB capability. So any developer's care for this problem is
welcome very much.

can't remember.
btw, could You test if the crappy knc-1 (odsoft?) non-bda winxp driver which 
supports the saa7113 input BSOD's on Your machine, too, on install?

get a v4l supported usb2 analogtv/av usb-grabber with full PAL/SECAM res. 
cheap from the bay, since dvb-t is replacing terrestrial analog tv in europe fastly.
majority of developers set priority for dvb paytv CI CAM, so no fast fix.

I don't have winxp but if it produces a crash it may be related to this:

No. bluescreen is a kernel crash, not crash of a userspace app, and I've not got any HD audio.
Your only chance to get analog working at this time is trying the non-bda winxp driver.
If it crashes Your winxp kernel, You got a warranty case to return in the 
card to the dealer or knc-1 and get money back, +assured product feature failure case ;)

As I said before, I don't have winxp.

My card was already tested under win2k with the KNC One driver and the 
analog inputs work fine there. So my card is definetely not broken.

mercurial logs, I've stated that in my older reports, maybe You read them.
it was broken for saa7134 cards, too, and later fixed, but not for saa7146 
based capture or our cards.

No. Driver supports also this TDA18211HDC1 tuner and used USB-IDs are 
Afatech default ones.
Other supported tuners are MT2060 (MT2061), QT1010 and TDA182xx -series. 
Tuners used with AF9015 but not supported are Maxlinear MXL5003 and 
Freescale mc44s803. Anyhow, adding support for new tuners is easy if 
there is driver for tuner.
I can try to add MXL5003 support if there is someone who can take some 
usb-sniffs and test changes.

It is most likely ~same as all AF9015 devices.

My Fuj:tech DTV PRO has same ID 15a4:9016 but
odd manufacturer MSI

It is read from AF9015 internal eeprom. You can set it whet ever you 
want (rather easily by patching driver). I even did that once by 
accident :) Look strings beginning from 0x5e in eeprom dump.

analog inputs still aren't working with KNC1 DVB-C Plus (MK3)
with hg/v4l-dvb changeset #7495 and kernel 2.6.25-rc8.

Guys,

if you want support for analog inputs or anything else in the
budget_av driver, _you_ have to
- find out how it works and
- submit patches.
