I have an Hauppauge WinTV GO-Plus.
It has mono audio and I expected it to out the same signal to both L&R 
speaker but it only outputs to the L speaker.
I use tvtime.
The sound outputs to both speakers in Windows so it is a Linux problem.

tveeprom 0-0050: tuner model is TCL M2523_5N_E (idx 112, type 50)
tveeprom 0-0050: TV standards NTSC(M) (eeprom 0x08)
tveeprom 0-0050: audio processor is None (idx 0)
tveeprom 0-0050: decoder processor is BT878 (idx 14)
tveeprom 0-0050: has no radio, has IR receiver, has IR transmitter
bttv0: Hauppauge eeprom indicates model#44981
