Dear Linux-DVBers,
I now own two USB DVB-T receivers (dongles): a Gigabyte U7000-RH and a
digitalNow tinyUSB2.
I use them on my Kubuntu 7.10 workstation.
I've had the digitalNow for a year or so and it has been working fine
(and easy to get going) with kaffeine except that I couldn't receive SBS
reliably (in Adelaide, Australia) although I was able to tune to it from
time to time. With the Tour de France starting next week (coverage
broadcast by SBS), I took a punt yesterday and bought a Gigabyte
U7000-RH and, yes, it too was easy to get going, and, luckily, receives
SBS nicely -but it can't tune to Channel 7 at all!
My kaffeine installation now has a channel list that covers all the
local terrestrial TV stations. If I connect the digitalNow device, I can
watch 2, 9, 7 & 10 and if I connect the Gigabyte device I can watch SBS,
2, 9 and 10.
I'm presuming that means that by channel tuning data is OK. I don't know
whether it's relevant, but I notice that SBS seems to be the highest
frequency local station and Channel Seven seems to be the lowest. There
seems to be a problem with both devices at the opposite ends of the
frequency range.
Any suggestions? (other the juggling the two devices!)

Ian,
Try updating to the latest scan file from the dvb-apps mercurial.
Channel 7 have changed their parameters in the last year and some tuners automatically try other combinations then instructed, that is why it is working with one and not the other.
The new Channel 7 parameters are:
# Seven
T 177500000 7MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 8k 1/16 NONE
As for the SBS problem it might be just poor reception or the tuner wasn't designed for the Australian frequencies correctly.

Brilliant, that worked! :-)
I had tried changing the guard interval to 1/16 which seemed to change
the behaviour subtly but didn't achieve successful tuning. Changing that
4 parameter (FEC High?) to 3/4 as well means my device works fine now.

My Gigabyte U7000-RH was working until last night when I upgraded to a
new kernel build -I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 and (now) 2.6.22-15-generic. :-(
Since then the device can't tune and I don't know how to troubleshoot
the problem. :-(
I've tried re-making and and re-installing the the v4l-dvb. I've tried
hg-ing a new clone from http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb (and remaking &
re-installing). I've tried 'make rminstall' and 'make distclean'
followed by 'make; sudo make install'. I've placed a copy of the
firmware in /lib/firmware/2.6.22-15-generic/
When I connect my dvb-t dongle /var/log/messages look fine:

Dear All,
I just hg'ed a new clone from http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb this
evening; cleaned out the old kernel modules; re compiled and installed
and...
It works! :-)
I'm sure I tried exactly the same process a couple of times this week
without success but I'm happy now.

I'm having trouble with a pvr150 card that I just added to my system.
I don't know if I should post it here, or what, but I've been using
the dvb drivers for months with no problems, so I figured it's a good
place to start.
My system is opensuse 10.3 with kernel 2.6.24.3 compiled by me. I just
downloaded the latest v4l sources a half hour ago and compiled and
installed those. Everything appears to be working on my pinnacle PCTV
800i cards. The hauppage appears to be detected right, but it's not
working properly. When I attempt to use tvtime I can connect to the
analogue side of the pinnacle cards at /dev/video1 and /dev/video2,
but I can't open /dev/video0, which is my hauppage. When using mythtv,
it connects, and tunes, and reports no issues, but it only seems to
tune channels 3-13. I have connected the coax to the tv set, and can
tune most of 3-70, but myth just shows snow for channels 14 and up. My
pinnacle cards are hooked up to rabbit ears, and tune ATSC just fine.
Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

For devices supported by the ivtv driver, such as a PVR-150, you can
also try the wiki at

What does
$ v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --log-status
report?

I'm not a tvtime user, but I would guess that it can't decode an MPEG2
PS which is the default stream type output on /dev/video0 for the
PVR-150.
You can do
$ mplayer /dev/video0
which should work or
$ cat /dev/video0 > foo.mpg
to create an MPEG2 PS file to playback with an app that can handle an
MPEG2 PS.

This sounds like maybe you might have the wrong channel-freq table set
up in MythTV: us-cable vs us-bcast (your card has an NTSC(M) tuner so
I'm assuming US freqs).
Again, just to take MythTV out of the loop to have some fine grain
control over the steps:
$ ivtv-tune -L
Frequency Maps:
us-bcast
us-cable
us-cable-hrc
us-cable-irc
japan-bcast
....
$ ivtv-tune -d /dev/video0 -t us-bcast -c 20
(just an example)
$ v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --log-status
(look for the right freq and video signal present status)
$ mplayer /dev/video0

Tuning to channels 14 and above requires a UHF antenna element for OTA
signals in the US. US NTSC channels 2-4 & 5-6 are low VHF and 7-13 are
high VHF, and they all use the same set of freq's for cable and OTA in
the US. The difference in OTA vs Cable channel-frequency tables starts
at channel 14.
