Hi Sirs:
I am working on the Dvico HDTV7 Dual Express TV tuner card under Linux
environment with kernel (2.6.26).
When I check the snr value and signal status about every 10 seconds,
it works fine in first few hours, but it will stop after about 12 - 24
hours.
I found out if i check the snr and signal status every second. It will
stop after 5 hours.
If I check the snr and siganl status every time it read PES, it will
stop in few minutes.
And it will show the message==> value too large for defined data type,
Read -1 byte from DVR.
Do you think it because the driver is not compatible with my Desktop?
Or I shouldnt check the snr value?
Thank you so much
Tu Tu Yu

Hi,

i got a

TerraTec Cinergy DT USB XS Diversity
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/TerraTec_Cinergy_DT_USB_XS_Diversity

Running well with v4l (except the problems with the SB700 USB ports of
my MB (disconnects here and then) => I am using a PCI USB Card with NEC
Chipset and everything works well).

One thing that bugs me:

The recording/reception quality is much worse that with windows.

Using the Terratec Software i get 100% signal and 100% quality in
check-mode and i NEVER got any frameloss or other picture/sound errors.

Using v4l and vdr i get mpeg-blocks here and then (5 minutes) and even
soundloss or complete frame loss.

Femon-Plugin for VDR shows me STR/SNR/BNR values which are in the lower
orange area, really close to red. => BAD!

What may be the cause?

This is set:
options dvb_usb_dib0700 force_lna_activation=1

Would be nice to see help to get 100% signal back.

Hello Holger,

Are you using the latest code from http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb,
including the newer 1.20 firmware?

Have you tried turning off the LNA and see if there is any difference
in SNR? While an amplifier can be a good thing in some cases, if
you're to close to the transmitter the LNA may be driving the signal
too hard for the demodulator.

Is the SNR level always being reported as poor, or only when the
signal is dropping out?

Devin

Yes, i use the hg tree.

> including the newer 1.20 firmware?

storage:/lib/firmware# ls -la dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20.fw
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 33768 20. Nov 14:08 dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20.fw

(the only .fw file in the directory

storage:/lib/firmware# md5sum dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20.fw
f42f86e2971fd994003186a055813237 dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20.fw

Where do i get the newest one, if this one isnt the newest?

I changed:
options dvb_usb_dib0700 force_lna_activation=1
to
options dvb_usb_dib0700 force_lna_activation=0

and retried (rebootet).

It did not help.

SNR is constantly poor <45%.

And now?

Ok, so you've got the latest code and firmware (there is only one
version of the 1.20 firmware). And we know it's not the LNA then.

You said the SNR is < 45%, but as far as I can see the SNR function
isn't implemented on the dib7000p or the dib7000m, so it should always
be zero. Are you sure you weren't referring to strength? Also, what
application are you using to watch the stream?

Well, at least something. :)

Yes, SNR is zero all the time. I am revering to the first "bar" signal
strength. Its between 41 and 44 on all my channels.

I rerouted my antenna cable (it was close to an ups and other devices),
but the strength didnt change. The bar was close to red in femon.

I made some recordings and watched one of them. NO missed frames or
distortions this time.

But I never had any in Windows and i got them often with v4l.

Iam usind vdr to record and vlc on windows to watch the 00x.vdr files
directly.

Maschine is a 2GB RAM, CPU AMD 4850, setup which idles most the time.

Thanks for any further tips.
