Hello,
There is now a test repository that provides analog support for the HVR-950q:
http://linuxtv.org/hg/~dheitmueller/hvr950q-analog
I welcome people interested in analog support for the 950q to download
the tree and provide feedback.
Thanks go out to Michael Krufky and Steven Toth for providing sample
hardware, engineering level support, and testing.
Regards,
Devin

I only have time today for a small amount of testing but QAM and ATSC are still
working reliably. No obvious issues. No obvious regressions.
I'll load this up on my myth box this weekend and ensure it's still reliable
over the long term.
I'll be in touch.

Hello Steven,
Thank you for taking the time to test.
One thing that would be useful, and I'm addressing this to everyone,
is when reporting feedback (positive or negative) you please indicate
which application(s) you tested with, as well as what kernel version
and CPU architecture you tested on.
Right now one of the big issues is while that I do not know of any
issues, the code has had limited exposure in terms of the applications
and kernels tested with. By providing this information, that will
help me tremendously in evaluating whether enough *different* cases
are being tested or whether everybody is basically testing the same
thing.
Thanks,
Devin

Robert,
Thank you for offering to take the time to test. I am definitely
interested in the results.
One thing worth noting is that Michael Krufky pointed out a couple of
cases this morning where I missed a mutex, so if you connect multiple
950q's to the same system you might hit a race condition at system
bootup. I'll nail it down this weekend but I wanted to warn you in
advance since you said you had multiple 950q devices.
Of course, I would be *very* interested in finding some way to get you
to do some testing of multiple devices connected at the same time once
that fix is in. I only have one unit to test with so I haven't really
exercised that use case.
Regards,
Devin

Devin:
I will test one per machine for now and I can put two on one of the
machines once your mutex fix is in place.

Ok, let's try a couple of things:
Can you get an full stack trace of the oops, using perhaps a serial console?
Can you identify how reproducible the issue is? Does it happen every
time? Does it occur when the device is plugged in, or when you start
your application?
What application were you using when the problem occurred?
It looks like the device was connected when the system was booted.
Could you please boot up the system without the device connected and
see if the issue still occurs?
Thanks,

A good test is to play with v4l2-ctl and check the implemented ioctls. I
often discover that drivers forget to fill in some fields, or do not
handle invalid input, etc. Esp. try v4l2-ctl --all and v4l2-ctl
--list-ctrls-menus.

Thanks for the suggestion.
When I first started the work, I did play with the test tool that
enumerates through all the calls and dumps the output, although I
haven't tried that again in the last couple of days.
My bigger concern lies in identifying the little quirks in various
applications, like how tvtime does a set format with UYVY first, and
only if that call fails does it turn around and ask for YUYV (as
opposed to enumerating the available formats and picking one from the
list).

Hello,
There is now a test repository that provides analog support for the HVR-950q:

I welcome people interested in analog support for the 950q to download
the tree and provide feedback.
Thanks go out to Michael Krufky and Steven Toth for providing sample
