The code compiles. Okay, great. Can anyone actually use this thing in
Linux? I can't on my 1-year-old HP dv-6629. Thank you.

I have tried a few different settings, and tired updating the drivers with HG pull, but I just can't get it to work. Glad to hear I am not the only one having problems with this. If you get anywhere let me know what you did, I will try to do likewise.

Or, you could both discuss your issues openly on the list and perhaps someone
may have an idea as to why your having specific issues.

I'm having the same issues (recognized - but won't turn on) with the same card
and would be delighted to join the open discussion and to try to help to provide
any information necessary to debug this issue.
To this point, I have enabled debug options on what I think are the related
modules and have seen nothing that appears to be an error, but am also noticing
that there should be some messages about loading firmware for the various chips
and they don't appear (I did put the firmware files in /lib/firmware but I
cannot find references to their correct md5sums to verify they are correct)
I'm a newbie to linux, but was once (20 years ago) a system manager on a
vax/unix system, so I can find my way around a bit better than average.
Tell me what info you want to see or what actions to try and I will gladly act
immediately.

Connect the card.
Cold boot the system, boot linux, use the dmesg command.
Do you see any evidence of the cx23885 driver recognizing your card?
Use the lspci -vn command to display attached PCI(e) devices, is the card present?

If you know MCE works then put you zip into antennaweb.org and find out the
physical channels and create a channels.conf by hand. Match the channels that
work on MCE mentally with one or two channels you want to tune under linux.
So, under MCE find a major network ABC, NBC or CBS that works perfectly for you
then locate the RF channel on antenna web.org.
Report back here with the RF channel reported by antennaweb for a couple of
channels and I'll help you with a fake channels.conf.

Agreed, w_scan not working is interesting.

This is good news, the card and driver look fine. You probably just need a
channels.conf (and perhaps w_scan has a bug?).
I don't use w_scan so I can't comment much on this.

My card shows similar dmesg and similar activity (no lights come on, scans take a long time under mythtv) Iget 6 or 7 channels in Wintv V6 in windows and 4 in MCE in windows. I do need to get my antenna up higher, but I should be able to get the same channels in mythtv as I can under windows.
I will try a fake channels.conf if someone can post one so I can get an idea what it should look like.
Thanks,
Tom

(Rule #2, always CC the mailing list. Don't drop them off, even by accident. An
honest mistake on your part so I've added them back in.)
Modify your $HOME/.azap/channels.conf to look like this:
ch25:539000000:8VSB:65:68:4
ch38:614000000:8VSB:65:68:4
ch51:695000000:8VSB:65:68:4
The use the following command to tune ch25:
azap -r ch25
What happens next?

No indicator light - I know this is probably just a bit set somewhere
that turns on/off the light and has nothing to do with actual operation
of the card, but thought I would mention it.
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
tuning to 539000000 Hz
video pid 0x0041, audio pid 0x0044
status 00 | signal 7fe2 | snr 0000 | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 |
status 00 | signal 008c | snr 0082 | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 |
....last line repeats indefinitely.....I hit ^c.
tried a second time - now all lines match last line and again I hit ^c.
also the same as the second line for the other two channels.
Something I forgot to mention, if you remove the card with the system
running linux it results in a freeze with a blinking caps lock led (btw
it's a hp dv9208nr laptop). It's ok under windows (32bit). I am running
64 bit linux.
If I insert the card after booting linux without it, the lines
referencing the card do not get added to dmesg's output, and the /dev
entries do not appear. udevd issue or driver?
I don't have any other expresscards that I could plug-in to see if hot
swap works on other things.
Ben
oops on the reply list. It has been a long time since I wrote to a mail

Hot swap is not supported, always cold boot with the device inserted.

I tested a 77001 D3C0 rev and it doesn't locked for me either.
This used to work. Either the xc3028 or s5h1409 driver has a regression.
End result: Bug, broken. Thanks for highlighting this.

You're welcome.
I'll look into this tonight and see what I can find.

The issue is fixed.

It's locking OK for me now. If you can clone, built and test - thus confirm the
fix - that would be great.

I tried updating it just a few minutes ago. After a restart, I tried using the card. I still get no lights on the card and get no lock on any channels. with MCE in windows I get about 6 channels at my location, all with very good signal strength.
Here is my output from lspci -vnn followed by the out put from dmesg. I am sorry it is so long, I wanted to include it all in case you see something I missed.
lspci -vnn

The patch works perfectly.
No indicator light, but 28 channels with stronger signal than mce!
Thanks again!

Don't top-post. The protocol is to reply underneath the previous email.
Ben confirm the patch works correctly for him also, so I suspect you have some
kind of build or installation problem. Maybe your missing firmware?
Your lspci and dmesg output looked good, I see no issues with this.

Good, thanks for the feedback.
Ignore the light, it's a visual indicator only. At some point we'll get back to
fixing that.

When I get your update below do I pull with the normal method or do I need to pull just from that link? What is the proper procedure for this?

Hey Tom,
I spoke with Ben off-list. He has kindly offered to walk you through the clone,
build and install mechanisms off-list, in other words a little one-to-one help.
Rather than repeat his email address here, exposing his address, please look
back through the mailing list and contact him directly.
In the spirit of 'one good turn', if you can spend a few minutes to update the
hvr-1500 product page on the linuxtv.org wiki
(http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-1500) then you'd be
helping another user in the future :)
