Hi,

I am trying to use an old Creative Instant Webcam with the gspca module that
ships with the 2.6.29 kernel and almost all I get are problems. It does not
matter if I use my laptop with an ATI video card or my desktop with an
nVidia card. I have tried using the webcam as the only device on the USB
hub. Funny thing is that "mplayer tv:// -tv
driver=v4l2:width=352:height=288:device=/dev/video0"
works properly.

On the desktop PC, lsusb gives me:

v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway

I don't feel competent on this anymore. We have fine guys working on it
now, but from old fashioned stuff to narrow it down, might still apply
within limitations, you obviously have no jpeg (devel headers) support
on that gentoo xawtv stuff.

Also, if you should have some NVIDIA or ATI binary drivers in use, bear
with me if you are the first one not failing on such DGA stuff, try with
xawtv with -nodga -remote -c /dev/video0 or whatever.

The rest I would like to pipe to Hans in the first place.

Hi,

what is the output dmesg after plugging in that webcam ?

Also are you using libv4l ?
