Hello,
what does the xf86-video-v4l driver do? I think I know the purpose of
xf86-video-<graphics_card> drivers, but I don't know what the -v4l does.
How is it used?
Regards
Stefan

Hi, please note that this mailing list is pretty much deprecated in
favour of the Linux-Media Mailing List (LMML) -- many key individuals
have already left the building (i.e. unsubscribed and participate only
on LMML nowadays).
Anyway, in answer to your question:
* from the command line, type "man v4l"
Then supplement that info with the following points taken from the V4L2
API
(http://www.linuxtv.org/downloads/video4linux/API/V4L2_API/spec-single/v4l2.html):

i think he knows also what v4l is about. he was asking which kind of
support is given to X through this driver, something i'm also curious
to know.
cheers,
Domenico

Domenico,
Try "man v4l" as CityK suggested -- you will find that he did in fact
answer the question appropriately.

It's an old Xv ddx that exposes v4l1 adapters as Xv adapters. It was
useful about 8-10 years ago, but at this point it's pretty bit-rotten.
