Hi - hope this is the right list to ask questions about dvbstream.
I am using dvbstream for an application I am developing
(www.sourceforge.net/epgrec) and when I try using the -n switch
(according to help should set number of seconds to record) it has no
effect
I have tried all place on command line and no errors just no effect
example
dvbstream -ps 640 641 -n 1800 -o >
/media/video2/BBC_NewsREC_2009_01_01_18_31_45.mpeg
Am I missing something?

no tuning?? Also, -ps is very dangerous. It's better to save the TS

use a fresh checkout, not the 0.5 release.

Do you have the source for your version (I presume you
mean v0.5) ?
This is the patch I have applied to v0.6, among lots of
others, which I think will fix it for you, assuming the
code is comparable between versions...

There are a lot of other hacks in the version I'm running;
either I'll post them as-is against the 2005 source code,
or I'll try to create diffs where applicable against the
lastest source, or I won't bother -- depends how lazy I

added in case there's interest...

I forgot to add that the -ps bug is fixed in cvs.
BTW, for years I asked to insert the correct "reply-to" header in this
*fuckingly broken* mailing list (to send replies to the list rather than
to the poster), but not a single time I received an answer by His
Majesty the ML administrator.
Can someone fix this issue, please? If not, can the admin at least
explain *why* he/she wants to keep it broken?
Please, no speculations: just facts.
Thanks,
Nico

It will be some time, as I will need to figure which bugfixes
are already there, and whether custom added features are
already included, or will apply painlessly... Plus, Real
Life has the habit of rearing its ugly head too often and
taking my time from better things.
For starters, so I don't waste my time, I've hacked the
code from 2005 to...
* permit extending the recording by SIGHUP (in case the
supplied value is incorrect, the program overruns or
starts late, or something)
* allow the user to specify that the program terminates
immediately in case of problems such as inability to
open the specified output file
* for writing to a specified file, directs normal messages
to stdout and errors to stderr -- allows me to call the
program >/dev/null from a script from `cron' and only
receive mail in case of errors that I could correct
* what seem to be a few compiler quietings
* RTP MPA audio hacks that may not work
* probably checks that nothing else has the device open
to prevent interfering with anything else
* other fixes that certainly aren't needed now (dev/ost)
In case any of the above are undesired by anyone save
myself, I won't bother creating those particular diffs

That's the wrong header. See my headers. Reply-To: should
be a user-supplied header, as I've often used when sending
mail from one account but receiving it elsewhere.
A better header to use would be Mail-Followup-To: or
Mail-Reply-To: , so that, should I start using a dyndns
domain again, I can still receive personal replies.
Anyway, I default to replying to all recipients, and trim
the list if I think personal mail would be better, or the
individual recipient(s) if it's not directed at them, the
Reply-To: if I don't want to use that redirection... But
my mailer is clear about this, and handles the different
reply-type headers properly, yet allowing me flexibility
to take things off-list as appropriate

This is the standard practice on kernel development lists.

yes, that link was sent to me other times; I disagree
completely with all that it says, especially because
if you are sending messages to a list it's perfectly reasonable
to expect the replies to belong to the list, at least by default.
Replies may be addressed to the original poster, but that is
surely the exception, not the norm.

How I see it: follow up to the list, reply to the poster. But then I, and the
software which I normally use (and older software which I've used), treat
them as something like "newsgroups via email".
More widespread usage of Mail-{Followup,Reply}-To would be good.

thanks - try it later
BTW - this message at the prompt
Latest version available from http://www.linuxstb.org/
may need to be changed - site doesnt seem to be much to do with dvbstream
