Hallo all,

I have a problem with a Cinergy TStick RC rev.3 (rtl2832u) DVB-T
USB-Stick, that I only get 4 programs, all on one transponder. This is
the full story:

Before I used OpenSUSE 12.2 with a 3.4 Kernel and compiled this driver
by myself:
https://github.com/tmair/DVB-Realtek-RTL2832U-2.2.2-10tuner-mod_kernel-3.0.0

This worked fine.

After a hard disk crash I had to install my system anyway so I switched
to OpenSUSE 12.3 with a 3.7 Kernel, because this should support the
rtl2832u directly.
Basically this is working. The Stick is detected:
May 30 13:15:37 server kernel: usb 1-3: new high-speed USB device number
10 using ehci_hcd

query interval to 400 msecs
May 30 13:15:37 server kernel: usb 1-3: dvb_usb_v2: 'TerraTec Cinergy T
Stick RC (Rev. 3)' successfully initialized and connected

These kernel moduls are loaded:
rtl2832 18542 1
dvb_usb_rtl28xxu 28608 0
dvb_usb_v2 34564 2 dvb_usb_af9015,dvb_usb_rtl28xxu
rc_core 30555 4 dvb_usb_af9015,dvb_usb_rtl28xxu,dvb_usb_v2
rtl2830 18316 1 dvb_usb_rtl28xxu
dvb_core 109206 3 rtl2832,dvb_usb_v2,rtl2830

The problem is, that only four DVB-T programs on one transponder can be
received, but these in a very good quality. It should be around 20
programs. I tested this with MythTV and Kaffeine and both only find the
same 4 programs. With a Windows 7 PC and the antenna on the same
position I get all programs in good quality. So I do not think the stick
is broken or the quality of the antenna signal is the problem.

Has anyone an idea?

Best
Torsten

Besides for testing purposes, it is recommended to use at least the last
stable stable kernel[1] e.g. 3.9.4-200.fc18.x86_64. :)
In addition, you can update the media modules via instructions - readme
at linuxtv.org[2].

Thanks for the answer so far.
I actually updated the media modules from git but this didn't help.
Messing around with the kernel is nothing I feel very comfortable with,
yet. ;-)
But if I understand the linked discussion correctly it wouldn't help
anyway. According to that the tuner is the problem and there is no
solution at the moment. What I do not understand is, why did it work
with the older kernel and the Ambrosa driver? Does it include a
different driver for the e4000?

Kernel won't bite you. :)

You've used the original driver provided by Realtek, 'dvb-usb-rtl2832'.
You are currently using GPL'd, 'dvb_usb_v2', 'dvb_usb_rtl28xxu' and
'e4000' designed by Antti & Thomas.

So I will try to find another useful option for this stick.
How do I prevent similar problems with the next stick I buy?

It is most likely e4000 bug. Some corner case. It is surely very easy to
find out, will take only 1-2 hours or so when you could reproduce it and
you know what to do.

Just take USB sniffs from working configuration, generate tuner register
write code and copy & paste that to the tuner driver until it starts
working. After that you could find out problematic registers quite seen
just trial and error method.

Lastly someone sends me non-working rtl2832u + e4000 device. I put just
same transmission parameters, which was said non-working, to my
modulator and it worked! Likely signal got from modulator was so perfect
that I was unable to reproduce issue.

Best thing what you could to is just to jump in and start fixing these
drivers yourself. There is only very few person who do these nowadays.
It is just lack of developers!

regards
Antti
