Fantastic! I've been hoping that this would be done at some point. It
was very unfortunate that Renesas went with soc-camera initially.

Did you compile v4l2-compliance from the master branch of the v4l-utils.git
repo? I always recommend that.
Can you post the output of 'v4l2-compliance -s' and ideally also 'v4l2-compliance -f'?
I always like to see that for new drivers.

We probably want to have both for some time with the soc-camera version
marked as 'DEPRECATED'. Especially as long as they aren't at feature parity.

Do you plan to add this in the next version?

No need for this. *nbuffers will never be 0. If you need a minimum of 2 buffers
before you can start streaming (a fairly common requirement for many DMA engines),
then set q->min_buffers_needed to 2 when you configure the vb2 queue. Then the vb2
framework will ensure a minimum of 2 buffers before start_streaming is called.
> + vin->vb_count = *nbuffers;
Probably wrong: when called from CREATE_BUFS *nbuffers is the number of buffers
that should be allocated in addition to the already allocated q->num_buffers.
So this should probably be:
vin->vb_count = q->num_buffers + *nbuffers;
But why not just drop vb_count and use q->num_buffers instead?

Shouldn't this be done after the if (*nplanes) check? If that fails you end
up with a changed nr_hw_slots field, which is probably not what you want.

This isn't right. The try_format call should never fail (except if the pixelformat
is unknown, and even there the preference is to pick a working pixelformat as you
do here).
So in case of an error it should pick something that is known to work.

NACK. Never use querystd in a driver. Instead use g_std here.

Don't do this either: FIELD_INTERLACED already implies that Top comes first
for 50 Hz standards and Bottom comes first for 60 Hz standards. So just leave
it at FIELD_INTERLACED.
What you basically are checking here is if the input is a SDTV input, and if
so then you allow the interlaced/top/bottom/tb/bt field settings and otherwise
you allow the 'none' field setting.

I generally recommend adding CAP_READWRITE to support read() as well. You get it
for free, so why not?

Drop this: f->description is now filled in by v4l2-ioctl.c to ensure consistent
format descriptions.

Why? This subdev_call belongs in start_streaming, not here. And then you can
replace this function by vb2_streamon.

I'm missing g/s/querystd here!
(enum_std is handled by the core)

General question: I'm missing HDMI support in this driver. Will that be added later?
Adding that is quite simple in this driver (as opposed to adding it to soc-camera).

Add VB2_READ and VB2_DMABUF (no point in providing vb2_ioctl_expbuf but disabling DMABUF here!)
VB2_USERPTR usually only makes sense if you have scatter-gather DMA. That's not the case here,
so drop it.

Hmm, if this fails you are left with a broken initial format. I think it
is fair to bail out if this fails.
