Hi Guennadi,
As I see you working for the next tree submission, I wonder if you had seen that
patch a couple of days ago ?
Cheers.

Yes. My current stack is at
http://gross-embedded.homelinux.org/~lyakh/v4l-20081217/
the first 9 of those patch have been pushed upstream with a previous
request.
Everyone who has contributed to soc-camera is kindly requested to have a
look, if I have missed anything, besides, we should very well test it -
there are a lot of changes there in the core and in all drivers.
Thanks

I was about to try this stack on my Phytec i.MX31 system when I found there is no mx3_camera driver in it. Too bad!
I still haven't been able to retrieve a VGA sized dummy image from my FPGA on a Phytec dev-kit, stuck at "select timeout". I was hoping that this new stack could have some important stuff that your previous (from November) didn't.
I can't tell if I am having a hardware issue... Do you have any modification or fix in your Phytec i.MX31 dev-kit?
Thanks & regards,

Well, sorry, no, i.MX31 is not in that patchset. It depends on other
drivers, that are still in review, and this patchset represents what I'm
pushing upstream _now_.

Nothing ground-breaking. The snapshot I uploaded for you in November
worked for me and it should work for you too. By "select timeout" I
suspect you're not getting any interrupts at all, right? That's your first
task - to get your setup generate at least one interrupt, then it'll be
easier:-) You say "haven't been able to retrieve a VGA sized dummy image"
- does it mean you can retrieve other (smaller) sizes? If not, I would
check signalling. Check the master clock, whether the pixel clock is
generated. You're using master mode, right? If both clocks are ok, check
syncs. You said before your logic analyser showed a plausible picture...
Are you doing 8 or 16 bits? Check output of /proc/interrupts _while_ a
task is waiting in select, you should be getting irq #167 - one per frame.
Good luck

I uploaded an updated version of the soc-camera patch stack at
http://gross-embedded.homelinux.org/~lyakh/v4l-20081219/
This should produce an equivalent of what is currently in my hg tree - at
least in what soc-camera concerns. If there's any interest, I might look
into installing a git-server and providing a git-tree with soc-camera
patches on that server, for 3 users to pull 5 putches every 2 weeks my
400MHz ARM9 on a dyndns ADSL line should be enough:-)
Next on queue (not yet in any of the directories on that server)

i.MX31
prepare pxa, sh, and all cameras to handle extra SOCAM_ flags being
checked in soc_camera_bus_param_compatible()
check extra SOCAM_ flags in soc_camera_bus_param_compatible()
we'll try to do the latter two slowly and carefully...
Thanks

We are working hard on a mainline quality patch series for the
phyCORE-i.MX31 and a bunch of these patches already went into the
maintainer trees for the 2.6.29 merge window.
One of the next central components is the pmic driver, which hasn't
reached mainline quality yet. If that's finished, camera drivers will
surely be in a better situation wrt. mainline.

pmic is good, although, I don't remember it affecting the camera driver
_directly_, so, I think, it is perfectly possible to have a good camera
driver with no PMIC support. As you know, PMIC is a separate IC, and shall
be handled by a separate (regulator?) driver. As you write - your PMIC
driver will be relevant for the phyCORE board, and not necessarily so for
other designs. So, I don't think this affects the chances of the imx31
camera driver to be included in the mainline.
Thanks

Hi Guennadi,
I made some tests of your patches against mainline tree (2.6.28-rc4 actually),

I have one little problem I can't remember having before :

I'm not sure whether the problem is not on my setup, I hadn't touched it for
days. I know after opening the video device, I setup a camera register before
taking the picture (to set up the test pattern and automate my non-regression
tests).
Will check after Christmas :)
Cheers.

You didn't post the top part - from ---[ start trace ... ]--- (or whatever
it is marked), it shows the exact PC and the reason for the Oops. But it's
strange - I don't think anything has changed aroung controls /
get/set_register. Have you replaced both the kernel and the modules?
Sorry, stupid question, but it really looks strange.
