[linux-dvb] Nova-T 500 disconnects - solved?

It's probably unwise to celebrate just yet, but...

I was running a vanilla 2.6.24.2 kernel, and was getting 2 or 3 USB 
disconnects each day. 5 days ago I upgraded to 2.6.24.4, and haven't had 
a USB disconnect since!

There is a fix in 2.6.24.4 for a USB bug that was introduced in Oct 2007 
- see:

Hopefully this was the cause of the USB disconnects.

Some details of my setup, in case it's relevant:
  Nova-T 500
  v4l-dvb rev 127f67dea087 (Feb 26)
  Vanilla 2.6.24.4 kernel
  Slackware 11
  IR remote control in use
  Continual EIT scanning
  Poor reception (MythTV reports 51-53%)

If true, this is excellent news (I have almost the exact same set up,
except that I've given up on the remote and the active EIT scanning to
reduce the disconnects). I've entered a bug report for this on
mythbuntu/ubuntu because the latest version (8.04, in beta) doesn't
seem to have this patch. The latest Ubuntu also uses the 2.6.24
kernel.

Can other Mythbuntu/Ubuntu users of the Nova-T 500 please comment on
that bug to help raise its visibility and/or add information?

Hello,

This patch has been probably also added to kernel  2.6.25-rc7 #1 SMP Sat Mar
29 01:19:10 EET 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux because I compiled that and get
working USB DVB-T after trying so hard 2.6.24 that came with hardy...

But I can also confirm that this disconnect issue comes from kernel 2.6.24..

Guys,

I have tried the ehci patch manually on the Ubuntu 2.6.24-13 source, and
indeed it fixed the disconnects.

The fix is now in the 2.6.24-14 binaries, and works just as well.

My Ubuntu Hardy has now resumed normal activities and Gutsy stability
levels, so far.

I can only recommend that users of other distros should check for kernel
updates, bug their developers to include the fix, or do it themselves.

Those are very good news! I had "frozen" my upgrade to 2.6.24 after I
started to see those messages indicating a "back to disconnect hell".

Now that the issue seems to be definitely isolated and solved I'll upgrade
the kernel as soon as Gentoo 2.6.24 kernel includes this fix.

I was following the discussion silently, because I wanted to see the 
information which lead me to the solution. Indeed I was wondering, that 
there was no change recently in the dib0700-module - so it must have been 
something else, but what.

Glad to see there is now a solution - I never could have found this one.

the fix is apparently also included in the 2.6.24.4-64.fc8 Fedora Core 8
kernel update.
