I had the Igor repo working on a Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2 (aka HVR4000
Lite) with VDR 1.7.0 as well, until yesterday that is. The harddisk of my
VDR system died and I had to re-install everything on a new HDD. The
important configs were backupped, but I didn't backup the Igor repo.
Well, no biggie. I compiled the latest hg repo on Xubuntu 8.0.4.
Compilation and installation went without problems. DVB-S and DVB-S2 works
in VDR 1.7.0. Only I can't get the remote of the Hauppauge working any
more in combination with the vdr-remote plugin. VDR starts, but just hangs
when he wants to setup the remote:
- dmesg output:
[ 40.705724] input: cx88 IR (Hauppauge WinTV-HVR400 as
/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:08.0/0000:01:0a.0/input/input4
- user.log output:
Jul 31 07:11:04 htpc vdr: [6610] remote control remote-event4 - learning keys
Jul 31 07:11:04 htpc vdr: [6610] device /dev/input/event4: cx88 IR
(Hauppauge WinTV-HVR400
Jul 31 07:11:42 htpc vdr: [6610] new remote-event4 code: 0000000100010067
= Up
Then it hangs. No output on the screen (I use the eHD for output). If I
change the input to lircd (which is for my mce_usb2 device) with
vdr-remote, the Remote setup comes up and I can complete it.
Has something changed to the remote functionality in the Igor repo? The
pull I did from last friday, did work with the vdr-remote plugin and my
remote.

I can agree, the Igor repo works very good! No more pulls from different
sources and add patches which breaks with newer multiproto revisions :)

If I use this driver for dvb-s, can I use the normal szap and scan utils
from dvb-apps repository or should download the szap2 and scan2 from
somewhere?

Considering this driver is using multiproto, you need userland which is able
to use multiproto, so use szap2 from the same repository :)
I've just updated my working copy of this repository, and got a
WINTV-NOVA-HD-S2 to work, or at least, to some point where it looks like it
works with DVB-S2. I tested it with some conf :
more Astra-19.2E.conf
Anixe HD:12722:h:1:22000:1023:1027:10203
Astra HD Promo:11914:h:1:27500:1279:1283:131
before the commit from last sunday :
szap2 -a 2 -x -S 1 -c ./Astra-19.2E.conf "Anixe HD"
reading channels from file './Astra-19.2E.conf'
zapping to 1 'Anixe HD':
API ver 3, delivery DVB-S2, modulation QPSK
sat 1, frequency 12722 MHz H, symbolrate 22000000, coderate auto, rolloff

vpid 0x03ff, apid 0x0403, sid 0x27db
using '/dev/dvb/adapter2/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter2/demux0'
ioctl DVBFE_SET_DELSYS failed or not supported: Invalid argument

yes, you're right - you should use dvb-application with multiproto support - vdr 170, szap2 from that repo.
But old application should work correctly with this driver too, but only with dvb-s.

with scan2 you should use -C and -M parameters too !

I optained the hvr-4000 and would like to set things up
with less error prone way in the beginning as I will also need to setup
and direct the dish toward the satellite for the first time as well.
Are the single frontend drivers from
http://dev.kewl.org/hauppauge/ the safest way to try in the beginning even if using new 2.6.26 kernels
even though the patch in there does not anymore apply to dvb-kernel head?
I assume with that I could just use standard dvb-tools without any
patching.
And what about vdr-1.7.0, is the multi frontend driver install
procedure mentioned in wiki ok for that one?
or is there awailable some other patch set for that?
Mika
