Yes! I can reproduce it when allocating pages outside of the qemu process.
$ echo force > /sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/shmem_enabled
$ rm /dev/shm/vm-ram
$ fallocate -l 4G /dev/shm/vm-ram
$ /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm ... -object
