If you can put in any name, and they dont verify it, I cant imagine they
can claim the specs are private.

Are the details unavailable in earlier 'open' versions of the docs ?

On 7-29-09 Segher Boessenkool posted a message on linux-embedded that said
the following:
The MMC Association has merged with JEDEC, so now everyone can download
the specs, e.g. http://www.jedec.org/download/search/JESD84-A44.pdf .

A bit more Googling has turned up the "SD Simplified Specification",
publicly available from:
http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/sdcard/pls/
This doc does describe the SD_STATUS register -- so I will post my patches.
