The patch to kernel to support autodetection of module directory is
rejected. However, a workaround like

make MODLIB='$(INSTALL_MOD_PATH)/usr/lib/modules/$(KERNELRELEASE)'

is suggested.

Can you consider inluding the kmod changes?
