Subject: Clipper locks - SAMBA and Linux Kernel
Date: Sat, 15 Jun 2002 14:49:43 -0500 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <01C2147B.E4CBF560.solutions@xview.com> (raw)
I have been following the 'Clipper Locks' issue raised by Anderson
Pereira Ataides [anderson.pa@persogo.com.br] and replied to by Matthew
Nuzum [cobalt@bearfruit.org]
We have some experience with file locking issues related to Clipper apps
running under DOSEMU.
The problem is not with DOSEMU itself, but rather with differences in
file locking and caching techniques between DOS/Windows and Linux.
Installing and configuring the most recent version of SAMBA (2.2.4) on a
computer running the most recent Linux kernel versions (2.4+) can resolve
the file locking problems. For more specific info, refer to
http://samba.org, especially
http://samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/smb.conf.5.html#KERNELOPLOCKS
Hope you find this useful...
