I'm using Novell Dos 7 and freedos and never had any problems using lredir.
Just one point: If you did an unsuccesfull lredir call to h:, you have
to do "lredir delete h:".

I'm afraid, you are wrong. I'm using SuSE 8.0 without any problems.
(KDE 3.0, KDE 3.01, KDE 3.02)
Did you use the latest global.conf and dosemu.conf?
